first week on my own...

well, now that every thing has more or less settled down,

this is the first real week on my own!

I had a long talk with my sister and brother in law and I had kind of talked

about moving to sydney, but decided not to, as I am a country boy thru and thru !.

They will come down every so often and  I can go there too.....

And I love the area I grew up in ,down here in the Shoalhaven I grew up in Gerroa and Kangaroo valley.

I only go up t sydney to see my family which will now be once every so often, and they come down here..

and I have some work to do with my house , and then at some stage do some traveling when I get my camper van..

also I might do some tafe courses each year, and now I can help out more at the radio station I love so much.

its so strange not ringing my father up every morning to see how he is or what he needs help with for the day.

No going to town to do his shopping or what ever, or helping him from one end of the house to the other.or going over every

day early in the am  and coming home late in the pm..

I never complained or whinged about doing it ,sure I got frustrated more than anything else I just wanted the best for him.

which I hope I did do..

so weird , going to take some getting used to just being at my home, the home mum and dad helped me get..

oh well, thats change I guess..

That's a nice positive attitude Milo, goodonya! Its really positive and useful to think of things to do that will fill the time you used to give to your Dad.
He was lucky to have you, not all old folk are lucky enough to have a caring son close by.... you did good!

Old routines don't let go easily, mate. But you'll get used to it. As to Kangaroo Valley, what a fantastic place that is! Been there a few times and will be again for sure.

Milo, I knew your Dad. He was commerce master at Sefton High and my social studies teacher in year 1. He was a lovely man.

Milo, I remember your Dad drove a black car, seemed old fashion for the time and part of his number plate was CHA. Funny the things you remember. Maggie.

What a coincidence that is Maggie and Alex - and nice for Milo to have someone remember his dad from the past.

Milo - you will be ok - you did a great job with your dad, you should be very proud of yourself, as would your Mum and Dad . It is your time now, do the things you want to do - get your motorhome, go for trips, do your radio (which you do very well) - and live a life your family would want you to - enjoy the small things, be happy.

It takes a while to get used to the change Milo. My mum passed away almost 8yrs ago and I used to ring her each night, also pick up her shopping and cut it up ready for her to use. I also picked up new fruit, vegies in season and looked out for anything I thought she might like to try.  I live on my own so would cook large and alway take some prepared meals to her at the weekend.  I would take her to church Sunday mornings and though she said there was nothing to do, I would clean madly before it was time to pick her up...smile....she would then say see "There was nothing to do"......

Now with my brother gone that is another change.....it will get easier.

Start planning you adventures.....

Cheers

I know just how you're feeling milo. I will miss my Dad too. But we have been saying goodbye to him for the past few years as his dementia got worse. Mum asked me to take a book back to his dementia unit on Monday. That was hard. Keep your memories alive milo. They tell me it gets easier.
