Deepwater - New England Highway

Have just returned from a trip to Sydney where I overnighted at Deepwater each way. It is virtually  midway between Glen Innes and Tentefield.

Great free camp at Deepwater Inn. Free hot showers and toilets, pet friendly and very friendly hosts. Plenty of room, just make yourself known to owners and maybe even have a beer. Friendly locals.

They also have a 24hr café.

You might like to repeat that in the Free/Budgets campsites section John, sounds like a good one, otherwise members could miss it. smile

We also stayed at Deepwater on our way home in Dec but we stayed at the common ground on the river just outside of town.

it is definitely a great little town, very friendly and working hard to stay afloat!

Hi ChrisandPeter,

I will be up that way in a few week's, I usually stay at Beardy Water's, I was thinking of a change this trip, is the common ground in Camps7? Heading north roughly were would I look, I'm guessing south side of town, is it sign posted? It looks good, wonder if any trout are in creek.

At Deepwater Inn tonight. A great spot and a very decent meal in the temporary bar (or in the cafe if you wish), good value for money. Beef Lasagne, chips & salad $9.50. It cost us $30 all up for our meals and a drink each, which is a far better use of our money than a caravan park site for a night.

The owners are working on the rebuild of the fire-damaged building and planning to have it finished by the end of the year. They are planning to restore it to how it looked in the early days. It will be great once it is finished. In the meantime, they deserve our support for providing a free caravan parking area off the highway, good meals if you want them and toilet & shower facilities.

Wow, we're considering Beardy Creek, but after your post we will definitely be going to Deepwater - if nothing else than to give support to the locals. Jenni

WE are at the Deepwater Inn for a few days.
Great pub, great people. Nothing is a problem.
Had the bacon & egg roll for breaky. Bread cooked on site, a huge feed for $6.
Very dusty at the moment but you get that with no rain.
A couple of very friendly horses greeted us as soon as the annex roof went up.
Can't say enough good things about the people & town.
