Respect for the Elderly

My gorgeous Aunty recently celebrated her 90th birthday by taking a hot-air balloon ride in Canberra. She had a ball, said it was the best day of her life. smilesmilesmilesmilesmilesmilesmilesmilesmile

After the balloon ride they all had a champagne breakfast at a posh hotel, and a big fuss was made of her, with birthday cup-cakes for everybody. Telling me about it, she said how rare it was to be treated with respect instead of like a silly old duffer. That's sad. no

Does anybody relate to this? Being treated as though you cant think for yourself just because you are older?

After radiation treatment for cancer and having all my teeth pulled as a result, and also not being suitable yet for the fitting of dentures because of continuing gum problems, my difficulty in speaking was immediately interpreted by strangers as some kind of mental deficiency... particularly on the phone. Yes, others are often too quick to judge, reinforced by common misconceptions. I've learned to let people think whatever they wanna think. I have better things to do than worry about dingalings.

Hear hear GK! Been in the same boat re-teeth or lack of them, kicked in the face by a horse and then gingivitis set in, good by teeth, or what was left of them.

I know every generation says the same thing but...... Young people these days are rude and selfish and by young I mean under 30.

Gotta love Victor Mildrew :)

Good on your Aunty, what a milestone and to be able to celebrate it like that. What's on the agenda for her 100th?

She reckons she's going to do it again, and all the other balloon passengers agreed to come and do it again with her too.

She's the best example of positivity I've ever met.
