It's a status of our times I suppose ! .. unfortunate though it may be, but with more and more folk hitting the open roads these days, we it was are hearing of more and more accidents relating to GN travellers .. whereas in the past it was more of an occasional reporting ..
On that note .. Enjoy a safe and memorable New Year to you all !

Hi Jon & Doug,
I did read one where a 21 year old ran his caravan and 4WD up the embankment of a flyover, got wedged under the bridge, that was over east somewhere.
Towed my van from Adelaide to my home town a week ago and couldn't believe the idiots with vans attached on the road
I sat on what I believed to be a safe speed given the extremely windy conditions aprox 90-100kph
Vans passed me like I was standing still on the dual highway from Adelaide to Port Wakefield
An early model statesman passed me and I guarantee the van was swaying a half metre either way
WA has the right idea ie towed vehicles limited to 100kph
I was in Walpole for a few days days Vic. Got back yesterday lunchtime. The amount of traffic on the South West roads were horrendous and everyone was in a hurry to get somewhere. Stacks of motorhomes, caravans and campers. The 60 or so kms between Quininup and Walpole is narrow and twists its way around the forrest, not good for impatient drivers.
Trouble is, they commute to work at 60kph or sit in a train/bus between holidays, then hitch-up the van, throw every thing in and head off. They don't realise they are driving the most dangerous combination on the road, a tug and caravan.

No, I'm not busy, I did it right the first time.
Self-powered wheelie walker, soon a power chair (ex. Nomad)

Was there a few weeks ago Bryan, mad as hatters, even the Forrest Highway was crazy, I wondered where they all came from it was like a mobile caravan show, along with other motorists thrown in. Going to get worse as the population and RV ownership increases, fact of life.
Quite common just south of Kojonup because of the hills (WA style hills) and wind. Don't remember any Christmas or Easter with out a caravan accident and usually due to being on the down wind side of a stock truck going opposite direction. Some vans just blew the top off. Even seen small cars flipped onto their roof. Truck and van are both doing 100klm/hr at the bottom of hill and the westerly wind whistles up the valley. Don't know if this was the reason for this accident but I have believed for some time there needs warning signs about the wind effect on vans in that area.

I wasn't aware of that woolman. Wind warning signs sound like a good idea.
