Christmas Crappy

Next Christmas David and I have decided we are going to spend Christmas

at Greens Lake. Sick of all the crap and so on our delightful offspring are sharing with us.

Doesn't seem to matter what we do, we are in the wrong.

Sad to say can't wait for this Christmas to be over.

Sorry, just had to vent

It's funny you know.We have been saying the same thing for years. But the glue that keeps us together is the grandkids.I agree ,that it does not matter what we do it is always wrong. But now the grandkids are growing up I wonder how long it will be before our use by date is up and we will be left alone with no one...When I think about it I am probably looking forward to that time.We reach a time when we should be worrying about us. It is great to be able to vent sometimes..Alan. Thanks Kath nDave..

Howdyeeeee Nomads, May I say something, Greens lake is a Sanctury, away from our delightful children, G/kids,, that's why quite a few of us have been here for nearly 4 month,,heheheheh,  May I say this ,,,its pay back when you turn your phone off, so they can't ring, and its thousands of K's away ,so they cant get here, Pay back is sweet, hehehehe................Billeeeeeee

It comes a time that it is you and her/him cause that is who cares. Modern families are different than even when I grew up, and I am only 60. This will be the first year, of many I hope that we will not have any kids for Chrissy lunch or even the grandkids but that is what it is. It is sometimes better to be surrounded by friends of your choice than 'friends' cause they are blood. Merry Christmas to all, tolerance because we can change what we can change but if we can't change it it is not worth getting upset about it. A prosperous and healthy New Year is what comes in the sack and keep the shiny side up.

Christmas is far too commercialized today.  The family aspect is long gone.

I agree JRH, and it comes with so much advertising pressure that if we don't "play the game" we are Scrooge. Cant we go back to simple little pressies and a nice lunch with pudding instead of this huge extravaganza we seem to be expected to do now?

This year will be our first "home alone" Christmas and its just fine with us!

Gee I must be lucky, my kids support me in every way.
When I told them I was buying a van they said go for it you can park at our places
Can't wait for Xmas and a big family do
Merry Christmas to every one

I, like Allan must be another of the lucky ones. There is only me, my son and daughter, no partners or grand kids  My son went to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia about 5 weeks ago to start a new job but he will fly in on Xmas morning to have Xmas together. We will be having an easy lunch at my place on Xmas day and then he is taking us out for a slap up lunch on boxing day.

They also combined to buy me a brand new car for my birthday this year. I have been lucky I guess in that I've never had any trouble with either of them.

We have 8 kids, spread around the country Allen.
The Brissy ones seem to be the unhappiest, must be mango madness.
The kids in NT, Vic, WA & NSW are OK.

Personally, Christmas means family time to me, its the time of year I get very sentimental and I feel sad for those of you who are in some ways estranged from your kids. I know for me it would be very stressful if I was in the same situation. Apart from our baby, Buddy the Jack Russell, we only have one son. Although he is bull headed and sometimes bad tempered and we argue like crazy, we love each other lots and there is nothing that we won't do for each other. He is unmarried at 27 and lives only 5 minutes away. He drops in often, mostly to drop off and collect his washing and to inspect the fridge and borrow my tools on a non return basis. He placed his order for Christmas lunch with his mother some time ago and that's what we'll be having.

We spend a lot of time together, we work together, even Mum works with us 3 days a week so its all good and I hope it stays that way. Its just sometimes I wish he'd find his own wife and leave mine alone. (Just joking)

Christmas has always meant family to me too.

Every Christmas has always been celebrated with our children and grand children all together. Our oldest daughter has the biggest house so every year we all go there...except this year...this year her family have gone to her in laws, so no Christmas celebrations, as Les is working too. So we celebrated Christmas last week, and tomorrow will just be another day. I don't even have the tree up, as we are packing and the house is a mess. But I do have my two younger daughters here with me until Thursday, then the middle one goes home, and it's back to just my youngest and me again.

Next year though, if it all works out, we are hoping to have our next house before the middle of the year. It's a big house, as in bigger rooms, but one bathroom. So if things go as we plan, we hope to have Christmas celebrations at our house next year! this will be the first time having everyone at our place. We are going all our with decorations, so it looks like a fairy wonderland.

Today is the first Christmas for 51 YEARS that my only sister and I have not been together. We are each at our respective adult children's home to be with our grandchildren. We have know for some time that this day was coming but we are still missing each other. We consider it amazing that we have had so many together so hopefully we will have a few more. 2 weeks ago we had every family member (32) together for Chrissy lunch so that was great.
I hope you all have had some fun today and wish you all the best for the new year

I am very lucky I have no issues with my children or extended family, and could have had Christmas with any of them - but chose to spend it with friends, and loved ones, here at Greens Lake - reading these posts, and hearing of others problems with family, makes me realise how very lucky I am. My children know I love them, and that I love to spend quality time with them - note - quality, not necessarily quantity - they are happy for me, in that I am enjoying my life.

Not a nice time to lose a loved one, a couple of others on the site have recently lost people as well - our thoughts go out to them - (not that any time is good to face a loss of life).

If only people realised how short life is, they would value it more, and take more care of their loved ones.
