bugs

Hi everyone. I'm an experienced caravaner and outback traveller but have been off the road 4 years. I have had 3 vans and a KK off road trailer. I thought I could work this out but it's got the better of me so ideas please. I have an 07 Supreme Territory, I have been over all the screens and hatches, vents etc and all are intact. I have added extra protection around the screen door, checked gaps with a back light and I'm satisfied that it's sealed. It does not have LED lights 1 not sure if I have midgie mesh, though the bugs are bigger than the mesh fitted. 2 how do they get in. It's not by opening the door. I have tried many things and these bugs are definately getting in somewhere. 3 I can't kill them with insecticide, they thrive on it. I've tried all types. Has spray been reduced in effectiveness over the last few years. As I mentioned I have travelled a lot, I have encountered many types of bugs but have been able to keep them out or kill them with spray. Something has changed. Any ideas please. Cheers John

Bushfly, welcome to the world of Supreme. We have a 22' Supreme Eclipse and have a similar problem with bugs. If you check the fly screens on the windows the edges need to be wider as the gap lets in large insects. This would not be Supremes fault as all they do is fit the windows. All we can do is at night when they all come to happy hour is reduce the amount of lights in the van. We changed all the lights, roof and wall to LED as well as the light in the range hood. By only turning the range hood light on we reduced the problem. We tried one of those squirty every minute thingys but it was useless. There may be a small bug zapper type unit you could try but it appears to be window flyscreens not being wide enough is the cause of the problem. Keep us posted as we too would like a resolution. Ours is a Jan 09 model

we use an automatic insect sprayer
bugger all bugs inside the van at night ,
you can set them for 12Hrs or 24 Hrs use
some thing like this one

Bushfly,,,

suggest you check the door vent, stove exhaust fan vent and fridge vents and make sure they have screens,,, many don't.

Also you can seal around windows with A VERY SOFT SEALER LIKE -      NO MORE GAPS      - DON'T USE SILICONE THOUGH IT WILL BE TOO HARD TO GET OUT when time to replace screens.

Thanks everyone, some things I didn't think of there, though I'm not sure about sprays as they seem to be immune to everything I try I'll keep everyone posted if i find an answer. Cheers John

Sneaky little bug-gers!!!!! They get in the tiniest gap - as well as on your back when you walk in!!!!! We have found the cheaper flysprays work better than others - the automatic sprayer things are good, but I don't like the smell of them!

They are so small, I think they can get through the fly mesh!!

In the last year many of the brands moved from being made and filled in Australia to being imported. Maybe they are not as good as they used to be when they were made specifically for this market.
