Countless Australians died for the freedom of speech we have today, many under the British flag, in France, Gallipoli in WW1, WW2 including fighter and bomber crews in England (unlike some other nations, Australians were integrated mainly with British aircrew.
The efforts of Australian Service men and women in turning back the Japanese with help from the Americans is what gave us our freedom of speech, otherwise we would be speaking Japanese. I may add it was the Americans that saved Britain too, otherwise they could all be speaking German today.

When using the above figures it must be remembered that the land bridge between New Guinea and Australia was only covered by sea 8,000 yrs. ago, about the same time as England was separated from Europe by the English Channel. A lot can and did happen in immigration and emigration before then and after by canoe/raft/boat.
Regarding Australia's pre-white history and modern Australian Aborigines this is an interesting read. Make of it what you will.
