Auxiliary Battery circuit in Patrol

Hi all,

With so many learned souls on this forum, any chance of some comments on the following circuit I have set up in my Nissan Patrol for charging auxiliary battery and caravan battery. I use the auxiliary battery as a backup in case of significant winch use. The van battery is charged using a battery isolation relay once the auxiliary battery is fully charged. I only use solar on the van battery so have not shown that part.

Hey Errol..

the Red cable off the Redarc.. is that dirt or is that Insulation discoloration..

If it's Discoloration of the insulation you need to find out Why.. It could mean that your looking at an issue down the track..
Does the cable heat up when its carrying a Load..

Hi Juergen,

It is red coloured insulation on the 1 B&S 1666 strand cable. Its what I had hanging around.............

The cable is cool normally and even after starting using the auxiliary as a boost. There is only 0.1V drop from Redarc to aux battery.

Thanks for that Wassa.

In essence it appears the same system as I have ended up with. The main difference is the assist for the main battery and an LED monitoring circuit.

How long have you had the system in place?
