It would be great as a camping meeting point for WA GN's, it is about the same from Perth to Yornaning Dam (184 kms) as Greens Lake is from Melbourne (189 kms) and there are a lot of similarities in the two places from what I have read on the forum.

I have done an overnighter there earlier this year around February and also called in there to check it out again two weeks ago but didn't stay as we needed to get to Narrogin asap.

It would be great to see you there, but if we can't all get there at the same time we could still use it as a meet up base the same way our GN cousins in the east use Greens Lake for anyone in the area, passing through etc. That way we are sure to meet other GN's at some time.

Thanks for the Camps 6 site 197 Ken, so that for Camps 6 and Camps 7 is 164.

If you see or talk to Cathy Ian (Delta 18) let her know about the Geo Cache although she probably knows about it already. Also your next door neighbours and the usual mob we meet up with now and then.

When is the Salmon run Bryan?

Usually last week of March if they are early through to mid May. I go camp on the beach at Boranup for a week with other members of our club.

Professional fishermen have a camp at Parry's beach when the salmon are running and if you give them a hand to offload the salmon onto the beach they will give you a couple of salmon for helping. Otherwise they will sell you one for $5 each.

I have been there when this is on and they usually post a lookout on the top of the sandhills.

For me the fun is watching them hit a surface lure, especially one of my home made specials. Sometimes I take the hook off just to get repeated hits. But then again its just as nice to be with your mates and not a care in the world, glass of red in your hand and watching the sun go down. With me its mostly catch and release which is why I also crush the barbs on the hook.

Yornaning is half way between Cuballing and Popanyinning, if it's bottled water I would say either, but to fill your tanks I think you would have to go to Cuballing, not far down the road. Cuballing has a pub as well for grog supplies or pub meal if anyone wanted one.

I think its a top spot Vic .. I spent (2) nights there on my way around before I got to your place.

What surprised me was there were very few GN types there at the time. Just 3 vehicles and some 'local' day trippers.

Being familiar with Greens Lake as well, it would certainly be a very good choice for WA bound GN's to visit. Lotsa camping areas and right next to the waters edge as is Greens Lake. there was a lot of shade available which also provides you with choice of camping spot .. yes .. good suggestion !

Good to know Jon, there weren't many there both times I was there either, only three the first time and one the last time recently.

I am hoping when Billeeee and Jules get over here they can help kick start it as a WA spot for GN's like they and HW have done for Greens.

Every state should have a "Greens" type of general "unofficial" meet up point being used by GN's so we have a chance to catch up with those in the area etc. I would love to go to Greens but it is bit far for me now so just WA for the time being.

First time I was at Yornaning Dam there was a bloke in a caravan collecting buckets of water from the lake, he said he used it for washing his clothes, dishes and body wash, although it was discoloured a bit with tannin from the trees/branches around the dam falling in the water. He claimed it did not affect the washing though.

If we all put it on our list when in that general area whether a group get together or otherwise we are likely to meet other GN's, the same as they are doing at Green's.

Like any bush area, make sure you have your insect repellent and fly nets. I did not find them a problem on my two visits but a lot depends on the season, wind etc, bear in mind it is near water. I understand there are no fish due to the large long neck turtle population, probably the same for yabbies. There is a small beach near the children's swings etc and also rubbish bin, bbq.

A local council employee checks the place out daily I think, I saw him both visits when I was there, I think he is checking for fires out of season and any dogs running around off leads. One caravanner had his off the lead but grabbed it quick and put it on a lead when he saw the council employee ranger, he saw it too but didn't say anything. They welcome visitors from what I can see. There are no camping signs shown (ie; can camp) but no "don't camp signs either", but I know they welcome campers so don't be put off by that.

Sorry but I disagree with all of you. I reckon the fee camp on wombats front lawn would be better, it comes with free power, free fresh drinking water on tap, free Alcohol, free food, gee wombat will make you so welcome, everything is for free. He even supplies the back packers for free.

Any wonder he is my mate, good on ya wombat mate.
