Hi Robin, Firstly welcome to the forum.. I have fitted about 6 Fiammas to the various busses I have built It is best if you can make some brackets to attach it so it sits vertical becoz if you have it facing slightly to the sky the arms will also come out high which can be a problem.. I have always had my sheetmetal worker bend me up some long pieces of aluminum the full length of the awning that sets it out at the top and I screw them on with stainless self tapping screws I then attach the brackets supplied with the awning to this again using large self tapping screws making sure using a string line so that all the brackets are perfectly in line and level.. This is important if you want the awning to come out freely and then park back in freely.. If it is too high getting a side curtain could be a problem so if you are getting brackets made you could slightly face the cassette down a bit so when the awning is out it is at a reasonable level. it is better to have to lift the outer edge a bit rather than have to put tension on it to pull it down..
It is important when screwing on the bracket to use a sealant on the screws..

The weak point of Fiamma awnings is where the legs attach to the outer edge and you will need to drill a couple of 10mm holes in the bottom between the leg and end cap so you can put a tent post in there and tie the awning down as when it is windy the pressure goes onto the top of the awning and breaks the swivel point of the legs..
We have also bought an extra spring loaded tension beam so we can have one at each end to hang our end curtains from and we also have a curved center bar to keep it from collecting water in the rain..
If you would like me to put a pic of our awning with the tent poles in place just ask..
