Tyres for single axle van?

Hello all, We are just about to take delivery of our 15.5' Millard Overlander and were told today that our choice of tyres was not possible. 15" Cooper Discovery A/T3. Their load rating is only 1030 kg and the van will be between 2000 and 2300kg (max). I've spent hours tonight looking at brands that have a higher rating. We need at least 1300kg which has the special code no. 118 Millard are suggesting Silverstone or Nexus (not sure of spelling, a US company). I'm a bit deflated (excuse the pun) about going from a good brand to an unknown cheaper tyre. Does anyone have any suggestions please? PS We can get 16" wheels that suit but it would mean deflating tyres to get in the shed.

The best solution is to use exactly the same size tyre and rims as the tug uses.
Gives you an extra spare and allows you to swap them all around to wear them out in a timely manner.
If that is not possible, use the highest load rating you can and 16" will nearly always have a higher rating than a 15".

Cheers,
Peter

Thanks Peter, We chose 15" so we could get the van into our shed but it looks as though we may have to go for 16" to get the best load rating and hopefully get through the door by letting air out of the tyres.
It is amazing that we have got to this stage of purchase without anyone telling us about load rating and wheel size. We probably should have gone for dual axles.

Re [We probably should have gone for dual axles. ]
That will be your next van, dual axles, ensuite, Sat TV with auto dish on roof, split system air conditioner, diesel air heater and grey water tank.

Our progress 15ft, 17ft, 23ft and now 21'6".

Hi Peter,
I like the sound of the next van you have planned for us:)
We are apprehensive of towing a big van. The new van is a real tardis, shower/wc, sleeps 3, air con, solar and all the other free camping necessities so hoping it will be with us for a long time. Had our last van since 1988! 14'6" golf excellent but no bathroom.

We take delivery next Tuesday. We found a Coopers A/T3 tyre 16" which is only 10mm higher than the 15" and a good load rating so hopefully all will be well. Looking forward to Dec 3rd!!
Margaret
