Finally,!!!!!

Kenilworth Showgrounds. Inexpensive and handy to North Bris.

You can find out information about the showgrounds here:-  http://www.aussiebudgetcamps.com/Review-Qld-Kenilworth_Showgrounds.htm

We finally got our van last week. It's so exciting. Now, We're in the process of packing up our house, filling up our van and getting ready to hit the road. We're living in North Brisbane and weren't gonna leave till after Christmas, but I don't relish the thought of living in my daughters front yard in Mango Hill, till then. So now We're in the process of deciding our best course ofaaction. Is there anything interesting going on within a few hundred K's of Brissy that we can check out, but still be back and forth for birthdays and Christmas?

Yeah a bit in the same boat Flicka, presently camped at Narrabeen Big 4 in very wet & windy conditions but will leave here on Friday for a few more weeks pending leaving for another trip prior to Christmas....we could have stayed with daughter & family but elected to go and preserve our sanity, would suggest you do the same unless very tolerant & patient of family & GK`s, plenty of inexpensive spots to camp close by.

Thanks guys. Jenzarl, I'll probably stay away from kennilworth... We just moved away from there six months ago. Lol. So we'll keep an eye out for somewhere different.

We often spend some time in Nanango, friendly place and close to Kingaroy if you need to do some major shopping.

A couple of places we stayed at recently, Cobb & Co. Six mile Bush Camp Site at Tandur just south of Gympie. Bore water Hot Showers/Drop Toilets.(Cleanest I have encountered ever) Cleaned every day and emptied once a week. No Power though. The road opposite the Matilda just south of Gympie takes you to the place. The last Kilometre is dirt Rd.

The site has numerous camping areas even "Glamping" cabins and a communal cooking are. During the long week in November there were 400+ people there but still room for another 400.

Great if you want the grandkids to visit.....Zip Lines and a billabong with water craft/Canoes inner tubes etc.

The other is Boreen Point 20 K's from Tewantin on Lake Cootharaba. Council owned site with eight powered sites right on the lakeside. Probably some one hundred other sites for camping. Very popular for sailing and water sports.. The lake is only knee deep for quite a few hundred metres out and some water craft can be hired. This one is on the net so you can view the site and even book. Another place close by is the Pomona Showgrounds less to offer but again handy for day trips to Noosa Tewantin etc.

Close enough to Noosa and Tewantin for Day trips and shopping.

Cobb & Co and Boreen Point were sites I enjoyed, peaceful and well worth a visit.

May or may not suit what you are after but just suggestions to consider.

The showgrounds at Maleny are pretty good, not far from the Big Smoke, but best in dry weather.

Thanks again guys. yuglamron, how did I not know about this place a Tandur, I wonder. I lived at Carters Ridge in the mary Valley and Ive not heard of it. Sounds great. How much are caravan or camp sites? It sounds like a great place to take the grandkids. We also have friend at Blackbutt, so we are going to head out that way and will probably go through to Nanango and Kingaroy. We plan on doing as much free camping as possible, so any goood free camp sites out that way?

There is a free camp at Kumbia which isn't far from Kingaroy. I don't know the area so not sure if it is off the track of where you are passing.
