carnarvon developmental road

Could anyone tell me if the Carvnarvon Developmental Road from Rolleston to Roma is fully tarmac - we will be driving a rented Maui motorhome over that route in January and a condition of hire is that you only travel on tarmac roads?   Thank you, Terry (at home in cold UK)

Thanks for that Richo, we're really looking forward to the journey.  That's a real fancy rig in your pic, what is it?

Its over a year since we were on that road, and things can change but its not in real good condition, there was a lot of pot-holes, edges broken etc.
If you are going into Carnarvon Gorge National Park, that road is not paved, and we had a couple of muddy water crossings as well.

I travelled that road earlier this year and apart from the odd hole here and there black stuff all the way. Might be a good idea to check closer to time as there are road works everywhere due to flood damage and wet season has started now.

HiNat, G'Day,

We travelled to Carnarvon Gorge in September this year. The road in is 44klms of sealed road

followed by 14 k's of gravel. There are two or three water crossings on the way in but they were

easily negotiated. Takaraka CP is fairly expensive ($45pn) and is 4k from the Rangers Station.

No longer allowed to camp at the Ranger Station, now under revegetation program.

The gorge is really a place of WOW value.

Thanks Gerty, does that mean there's no way to get to Carnarvon Gorge without going off-road?  That would be very disappointing.  Terry
