Wow that's very interesting indeed Sheba, many, many years ago we had a white crow hanging around our farm. Nature can be a wonderful thing.

Excuse me for being cynical, but I wonder if s/he would have trouble finding a mate.

Shut the front gate Sheba,

that blue wing stands out much better though, really nice.

Rosie, maybe Wombat would look better in black budgie smugglers cos Mrs W reckons he doesn't look good in the white ones.

Sorry Sheba, Dazren made me do it. (Slightly off topic)

So do they think this is a very rare separate species or some kind of freak/sport of the regular kookaburra? It looks fairly healthy, maybe its the angle but the beak looks over-large?.

If you Google "Black Kookaburras" on the Image page, and click on the third Pic., you'll find an article about a whole family of them in Sydney, at Liverpool.
Not a rare species Gerty.  I can't remember the correct terminology [ maybe something to do with Melanin ?] off-hand at the moment, but it is explained in the article.
Cheers,
Sheba.

It looks like a juvenile Blue Winged Kookaburra or similar species with darker feathers, rather than a "common" Kooka. I'm no nature expert but I do like to sit and watch, and some of these species very from region to region. Cute anyway.
