Hello all we are looking at getting a setup for our van acces antennanas have one but it is very pricey $5700 fitted as we are in WA can anyone recomend other options IE different supplier And more importently do they work Cheers Bowsie
Bowsie, they work fine most of the time.
you will need to ensure you park so your sat dish has a clear view of the sky.
Unless the dish is at least 85cm you may have difficulty getting enough signal in some parts of Aus and also during rain.
For the purposes of comparison you should have a look here: www.satplus.com.au
very good company to deal with and excellent after sales service and support.
See how you go.

Personally I would visit Campersat's site and look at the Snipe satellite system. They have a fully auto system and a wind up system at much less than other alternatives. They even have a tabletop version available. The foot print is also much smaller than other systems and cheaper. I am toying with fitting one myself.
Had a look at the snipe system and also the coverage map on that site.
seems the snipe is only effective in strong signal areas like the east coast and would be struggling to get enough signal in other parts of Aus.
stick to at least an 85cm dish for ease of use and performance in rain.

Reports I have heard on the Snipe system are very poor with lousy back up. There was a lengthy comment from a purchaser on rvsupertramp.com.au and she was not happy. Her comment in short was don't buy one.

We have the Alden automatic system, and have it for some 18 months it works all over Australia, not cheap but worth every cent, my moto "Pay and forget"
I'd rather put my money towards something else but hey that's me, TV I can take it or leave it rather be outside having happy hour with fellow GN or on the computer on this great site and if it's wet well we watch DVD's.

Thats us too mate, if we watch TV twice a week that would be too often and if our cheap antenna won't bring in signal then thems the breaks...lol
I fitted the Vansat Bluestar system before I left WA on this trip. Very easy installation instructions to follow. Good support by email when I had questions. Used it right across to Qld without a glitch - well only the usual one with having to get the VAST commercial stations enabled as I entered each state.
Highly recommend.
Cheers,
