Modifying seating in a Pop Top Caravan

We have a 2006 Jayco Destiny Pop Top Caravan with a combined shower/toilet and double bed. We have been very happy with it but have increasingly found the L shaped dining seating to be uncomfortable for relaxing on. We have considered putting in a cafe style dining set up with a Tri Fold Table but we think the space to do that is not adequate. Has anybody else modified their seating area or do you have any ideas. By the way, relaxing and watching TV or reading in bed is not really an option as within 2 minutes we are usually fast asleep yawn

A mate took out the entire seating and replaced it with a tri-fold table and two recliners surprising it actually took lrss room that the original design the only problem he found was everytime his feet reclined his eyelids fell down. he and Mrs love the mod and can't see why manufactures don't provide the option.

Thanks for your response. That is the idea we had but then we were advised that if we took all the seating out it would compromise the strength of the Pop Top Caravan because the seating strengthens the caravan walls. This advise would appear to be incorrect if your friend has converted their Pop Top without any structural problems. Many thanks again.

Hi

Kay and I Did exactly that about 18 months ago, our Caravan is a new AVan Owen and found the L shape seating the worst and most uncomfortable we have every sat on, so  out

came the L seating and table and we bought 2 swivel/rockers/recliners from Officeworks in Mildura of all places, total cost about $300 for both, have never regretted it and the chairs are still going strong, I tossed all the L shaped rubbish outside the Van and was gladly picked up by other need campers

Thanks for your response. Glad to hear the modification worked well for you, however our problem is our van is a Pop Top one and the concern is that removing the existing seating would make the walls of the van unstable because of the raised roof.

I would think that if the caravan depends on the lounge to keep it strong then it is a poor design. Maybe you should have someone look at the structure for you.
