Roadside Assistance

Hi All,

In preparation for the east west trip we have been looking for roadside assist providers in the event of a breakdown, But due to size of our rigs, none of the usual providers eg NRMA, RAC etc cover them.

We have been looking on the net and have found a business called fixmytruck.com.au , Has anyone had any dealings with them???

Cheers

John and Kaz

I just got NRMA roadside assist with premium plus for heavy vehicle total $359. for a Mercedes sprinter

Bigger vehicles, bigger towing, bigger benefits

If you drive a motor home or tow a large caravan, chances are your Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) is greater than 3.5 tonnes. While all that room makes life comfortable on the road, it can be too large for standard tow options. And if it's not standard it can cost big dollars.

Heavy vehicle specialists
Premium Plus now includes towing for vehicles of up to 10 tonnes GVM. That will cover you all the way from a Hilux to a Winnebago. If you've suffered a major breakdown, the NRMA will assist in arranging a qualified Heavy Vehicle Specialist to attend.*

Generous towing
And if youre heading out of town you'll love the extra towing inclusion: up to 50km in country areas or back to the nearest NRMA Country Service Centre; and up to 100km in remote areas.

Dedicated case manager
On top of this, if you have a major breakdown, our Premium Care team will assist you with a dedicated case manager who can find you a repairer, accommodation or alternative transportation we take care of everything!

Here lies the problem

The cost of a tow in romote ares is huge, 100KM is in my view urban, we were towed 600 oddkm from hedland to broome, cost to racwa was 3500 for the vehicle on the truck, the cost to us was $1800 for the caravan towed behind the same truck, so invest with care and the best insurance of all is pre trip maintance
cheers blaze

John,
Regardless of who you have breakdown cover with, I understand that if your are insured with Ken Tame Insurance and in the CMCA, KTI will assist with up to $1,000 a year with a breakdown/s. But you need to confirm this with KTI to be sure.

To me its worth a phone call.

I have been lead to believe that Premium Plus will give you unlimited towing for heavy vehicle. Ken Tame will only tow you to the nearest repair but if your vehicle is under warranty or can only be fix by a specials service centre you have to pay the towing fee to them.

I am due to renew my membership next month so I hope the information I was give is right as I will be joining Premium Plus . If anyone has anything better please tell us. May be we should join together and buy a tow company for heavy vehicles.

Thanks for info everyone, but the problem is the austral is a little heavier than 10t, its around 14t at the moment with a gvm of 21t, plus its 3.7 metres tall thus racv and nrma won't touch it.

Thanks also Peter from sa, I will definitely give Ken Tame a buzz to find out if it is covered under his policy's.

Cheers

We have a Conquest motorhome - and had cause to use the Fiat Prima Care that we get with warranty the other day. Battery was flat as a tack - ended up it had a dead cell. Fiat were great - within half an hour we had a guy next to us with a battery pack and a tow truck (just in case) - got us going, pointed us to the nearest Marshall battery place. Very efficient.

Our insurance with CIL has a breakdown service attached, and after the warranty has expired, we would be using this. Can't get RACV or NRMA - too high, too heavy - you name it - we are approx. 3.3m tall and weight is 4T - just to change a tyre we would need a truck mob to have the equipment to do it.

A member on here was a member of RACV - had a flat, they sent out a ute with a car jack!!! She had told them what she had - anyway, she ended up sitting on the side of the road for four hours in the heat waiting for a truck tyre lot to come and help her! Not good enough! (She has a Coaster)
