Weather at Harvest Time.

Who would be a farmer?? Here we are at Munglinup, WA (105kms West of Esperance. Caravan set up at the farmers place, driving a triple road train picking up grain from his paddocks and either taking it to a CBH Bin at Munglinup or all the way to Esperance. Moved over 1600 tonnes of Canola and 800 tonnes of Barley. Still about the same amount of Canola and 3 times as much of Barley before moving onto the Wheat. About 4000 tonne of that at about 62 tonne per load.

Weather here? About 10ml of rain overnight. Big puddles of water everywhere which makes driving a triple road train over cropping pastures next to impossible. When full, I run out at between 102.5 tonne and 105.00 tonne. It will probably be 2 days of fine weather before I dare venture onto paddocks again. Already got bogged and the ground was dry. Followed the bosses instructions to get to a bin that was not on the normal line. About 95 tonne at that stage. Bogged and a real bugger to get out using 8 wheel tractors and huge chains.Won't do it again.

Still, off to Espy with SWMBO today so looking forward to the day. If we are off tomorrow, may head down to the coast and do a spot of line wetting. Fish tend to hear I am coming and avoid the area.

That's a big load Bob!   Dunmowins down Esperance way somewhere getting involved with the Harvest, not sure what exactly though, I know they had to wait for a bit.

A couple of months back we were up Morawa way and the grain trucks at a Depot there were using Channel 18 (I suppose because hardly anyone uses it) and I have also heard it being used by farmers in paddocks etc to communicate with each other.

What do you use on the job?

Our farmer uses 31, the muggy bin uses 30, Brazier Street CBH uses channel 36, Chadwick Bin for CBH use channel 38, Esperance Port uses 40. CB out here is great. They are used for what they meant to be used for. Very little language or abuse. A real pleasure. Someof the trucks here are twin steer, bogie drive, twin steer, tri-drive and all have tri-axle dollies and trailers. Good fun and good hours.
Reason for doing it? Sold the house and all the associated bills. Had to work for 11 months of the year to cover costs, now work for 4 - 5 months to cover costs and we now travel the rest of the time. WA this year, maybe again next year. We then may do the Victorian harvest or maybe the South Australian. Whatever.
Saw a MH today with the words "Mad Once, Nomad Now". Loved it.

Thanks for the feedback Bob, it always interests me what channels are used, I know the usual designations but all not always used according to that.    That MH owner might be related to Billeeeee!  He he!

Thanks for your feedback too Milo.
