I lived in the Philippines for many years and still maintain my house here where I spend about 3 months of the year. I have endured fifty or so typhoons (We call them Cyclones, Americans call them Hurricanes), 2 earth quakes and a massive volcanic eruption. Now a Super Typhoon is heading towards me. The picture is from the U.S. Navy Weather Station in Hawaii. If you follow the pink line to "07/18Z" that means the typhoon is forecast to be at that location on Friday Nov. 8 at 2 oo a.m. This is a SUPERTYPHOON with winds from 120 Knots to 150 knots when it hits land. I should be ok in my house but I pity the thousands of poor devils living in bamboo and grass huts !! I am located on an Island (Philippines has 7107 islands) half way between '07/18Z" and "08/18Z".
In the Satpic in the Inquirer Newspaper, the big yellow and red "blob" in the bottom right hand corner is the typhoon.
BG take care mate I suppose being in paradise sometimes has its disadvantages so keep low and hopefully all will be OK. Like you said it's the poor buggers in grass huts hope they don't get to badly affected. Keep us posted as to your well being once it's over.
My ex was in Darwin for Tracy, so he knew how to batten everything down when we had 2 Cyclones within 3 weeks when I first went up to Cape York in 1984. [Jim and Kathy.]
I had friends who were visiting the Wifes' family when Pinatubo went up. They couldn't get home for weeks.
Good Luck Ken. Will be thinking of you.
Cheers,
Sheba.

Thank you for all the good wishes. Even though this is a Super Typhoon and is forecast to come over the top of me, I'm not really concerned. I've been thru a lot of them and being prepared is the key. I'll keep you updated.
My scariest time Here was the volcanic eruption of Mt Pinatubo in June 1991. I'd left a well paid airline job to buy a Hotel here, and next came a typhoon and eruption at the same time. This was the largest eruption of the 20th century and I was 10 miles from the mountain. I almost adjoined Clark Airbase, the largest U. S. Airforce base outside the USA. It was destroyed and abandoned, so was Subic Naval Base on the western side of Luzon. A couple of photographs give you an idea of the disaster it was:
The first photo was what we saw on the morning the eruption began. The other photos speak for themselves. The aircraft is an abandoned DC10 fuel tanker left at Clark Airbase.
Now I realize all this about Super Typhoons and Volcanos doesn't relate to Motor Homes and Caravans, but I thought you might be interested, especially in the pending natural disaster.
Now you guys get on the road and enjoy yourselves. With luck I'll be back in Tassie on November 20, and early next year I'll be joining you on the road again.
Take care out there.................................................Ken.
Mother nature at her best or should that be worst BG. You were very lucky to be able to tell the story. No problem this end with seeing these sort of posts, after all this is "I digress" anyway.
Keep safe BG.

Stay safe BG.. Just pretend someone up there past a big bit of wind..
use to live in Darwin.. Last cyclone I put up with was called Max. Anyway it was a case of bunker down and resurface after..
Thanks once again to everyone for your concern. I feel quite humble that so many people, people I have never met have wished me well. You are a great bunch all of you GNs out there. Although brief, this is the latest update:
I'm tracking the typhoon on the U. S. Military weather station website in Hawaii and the local PAGASA. Starting to look scary. Storm diameter is about 600km with winds 215 kph gusting to 250 kph (I've converted knots to kilometers)
It's not practical to reply to every post, but be assured each one has been well read and links sent have been looked at and studied.
Should start to feel the brunt of it by early Friday morning. If I don't post an update Friday it's because the power and Internet will be off the air.

Follow the pink line to 08/00Z. That means Friday November 8 at 8.00 a.m. That position is at the southern tip of the island I am on. I'm located about three quarters of the way north on the west (left side) coast. The Centre has moved slightly south but I'm still gonna cop it real big...!! I'll be abeam the centre hallway between 08/00Z and 08/12Z, about 2.00p.m. Tomorrow, Friday, 5.00 p.m. Sydney time.
