Heading down to Victoria

I did it a few months back and cut of just west of Sydney then down the Hume. Last year I did from south west Gippsland to Morwell then Hwy 1 all the way to Sydney then back down the Hume again. Why not just Hwy 1 all the way, good all of it. Just my thought.

Keep away from Browns mountain between Bega and Cooma. Same nasty grade for 10ks staight up all the way. We found sydney to vic border along the coast was pretty easy. Havnt been further into vic though.

Try and avoid the Alpine Ranges and parts of the Dandenongs if you travel in the bus in your AV. I have driven buses and coaches all through Gippsland and most of Vic so no problems there, of course you get some roads a bit iffy but just take your time as I am sure you know and do anyway.

I haven't driven the big boys on Hwy 1 in NSW but from what I have seen and travelled on very recently and about to travel on again as of tomorrow you will have noooooo problems.

If you are going to stick to the coast all the way to Vic, there will be some type of descent south of Sydney. Others are better placed than me to advise which is the best route for your rig.
That drop down the range at Toowoomba isn't much fun with a van on the back either!!

More up you go , more downs you go the better you get at it.

I think I have said this before, the view is better on the down side.

Take it slow, keep control, don't matter about holding up traffic, do your thing you have earn' t by working to get what have so enjoy.

Down the coast out of Sydney is your last real big one past the Wollongong. Ralph

I live on south coast NSW and just doing a trip to SA via Victoria my advise is travel via the Hume better roads by far

There is no perfect way to go. Each possible route has advantages, scenery, stopovers, things to experience. Each also has challenges. If you want "easy" stay home.
The coastal routes are beautiful but can be a bit windey and hilly. The inland routes are great, but roads narrow and trucks can be threatening. The Hume is fabulous, with divided road all the way... But you'll speed past and miss heaps.
My advice, for what it's worth, research the places and experiences you want, and go for it.
As some one above said, the more you tow over hills and tricky roads, the better you get at it.
