Still get it checked out as it may look ok in what you can see,,, it is what you cant see that appears to be the problem,( just ask the Gall Boys )..while they were over on Fraser Island.

This is a ( customer satisfaction action )  from Toyota on the Prada 120 tow bars.

They will also swap your WDH for a genuine Toyota item.

Gday..

Thanks for the info herbie ... any details on the issue that prompted the recall of the towbar and additional generous offer to replace (which) WDH with a genuine Toyota WDH?

Cheers - John

Gday...

While we await herbie's further advice, some research suggests it is actually not a "recall" but Toyota responding to problems with the tow bar on Prado 120 vehicles that are 'apparently' caused by the use of Hayman Reece WDH. It apparently causes damage to the bolts holding the tow bar and/or loosens them.

Toyota are apparently sending letters to 'registered Prado 120 owners' and asking them to return their vehicle to dealers for checking, remediation, and a replacement genuine Toyota WDH in place of the Hayman Reece WDH. It is said there is no charge for the inspection, remediation and replacement WDH.

Apparently dealers are aware of this "issue", so if you have a Prado 120, contact your dealer and take it from there.

Cheers - John

The letter that one of my workers received yesterday from Toyota stated that is was a Recall from Toyota regarding the genuine Toyota Tow bar...When he rang the dealer today from whom he brought his vehicle from this is what they told him...It will be inspected ,re the mounting bolts etc. After inspected they will put some kind of sticker on it and if you intend to use an after market hitch then you need to sign a disclaimer.( problem here is that Toyota LDH is not height adjustable and may leave you with your van/boat having a nose up or nose down aspect...wonder what the safety aspects with this is ) The problem appears from looking at the tow bar to night it is the cast section in the middle of the bar that acts as the receiver for tow bar assembly. This vehicle is a 2005 120 series so the problem is not new going by this...

The 150 series ( current model )Prado has a totally different set up which is more like a Haymen Reece and much stronger no cast centre section in the new design.

If you brought your Prada second or third hand for peace of mind take it into a Toyota dealership for a inspection as it is no cost apparently .

I think some time back Nissan had a problem regarding tow bars as well.

I thought it may have been posted on the Gov web page re this latest re call from Toyota, but I guess that is more for safety recalls .
