Some tourist info centre's will let you Marj, other than that check out the local parks etc and use your tap key perhaps, I have seen people doing that and get away with it. CV parks another option, you could give your cloths and self a good clean at the same time. Cheap CV park in a small town would fit that bill I reckon.

When on the road how do you go about find water to fill your water tank.
When I start a trip it's easy as I can fill up at whoever's house I'm leaving. Once on the road and run out of tank water as I have now, I don't see anywhere available.
Its not like they put signs out "Fill your water tank here"
I have just bought an extra 20 litres from Aldi in Parkes for drinking, so ok there but need it for washing, cleaning etc. Any ideas?
If you havnt got water tanks under Myrtle, get some 20 lt water bottles from Rays etc or garage sales and fill them up at servo's or information centres or parks using your bunnings key

We have just returned from journeying on the Newell Highway from Melbourne to Queensland and found an abundance of available water.
The Camps 6/7 book lists rest stops with a tap logo indicating water is available.
We top up a twenty litre container and pour it into our tank ass needed.
If we stop overnight at these rest stops, we can use the shower in the van and replace the water used. It usually is marked on the tanks "Not for drinking" but we boil it to make a cuppa anyway and we have a filter in the line.
Just to be on the safe side though, we do carry a 20liter container of mineral water. Been carrying around for twelve monthss and haven't opened it. Thanks for the reminder, must see if it has a use by date.
I would be careful use those tap key there could be a good reason they don't have a tap key on them might be that it is not suitable for drinking and only for the garden use , We don't need a funny tummy there are plenty of places to get water without taking chances on suspect water , We all way carry bottle water for drinking on the road has we don't like the taste of some town treated water
I have been buying 10 litre containers with tap from Woolies for $ 4.49. When empty fill up at first available opportunity.
The 10 l containers are more manageable.

Brian, yes I only buy 10 litre and that is difficult after having two broken arms.
Brickies, I have one of those taps, very handy at places like Greens lake for washing clothes, dishes, and anything else. But of course I don't drink it. As said in my opening post I buy my drinking water.
Also to Ken, yes I have water tank under Myrtle as said in my opening post. But its empty.
Yippee, just found while writing this there is a water tap up and over from me here at Forbes.
Hi Marj. if you are at Parkes and heading south, there is a free camp at Condobolin, 100k away hot showers, tap water, flushing toilets etc, along side a lake.
Gum Bend Lake.sorry not near my camps book at the moment but you wil lfind it easy in yours if you are interested.

I got 10 litre water today at Aldi for $3.99. Was rapt with that. I usually pay about that for a 4 litre at foodworks.
Couldn't we all do with some rain slats. Very hot and sticky here tonight.
Hi Marj, I'm with those who say they look for Visitor Information Centers - most of them have a tap nearby or they know where there is one. If they're open then I always ask if they mind (no one has said 'no' yet) before I fill up. If you're at Green's Lake then the VIC at Rochester is a good spot but the taps are a fair way from the closest parking bay. Haven't tried the one at Elmore.
While we were away in August we spoke to lots of people that went to the visitors information centre and filled up there van with water. We did not know this until then
I've thought about that too George, the problem with that is you've filled with fuel. After paying you have to move to let others through. Usually the tap is in a position you can't get your van into because of all the other traffic trying to get in for fuel.
When I was at Kumbia last week I noticed two car came in and parked nose into the building. They went into the cafe part for at least half hour.
At the same time two vehicles parked across the front of the bowsers and went inside shopping.
That left no customers able to get in for fuel for over half hour.
It's a very small area in comparison to the city servos.
I like the Info Centre idea, will look into that for next time.
