Left the Sunshine Coast area Wed. arvo & after battling our way across Brisbane (using NO toll roads) & only getting confused? lost? once we made it to Rocklea (sth suburb). Here we were able to park up over night in the yard of Big Wheels who yesterday morning looked at & sorted our a minor problem we had. (We can recommend this firm for good workmanship & moderate charges). We then went on to spend the night at rest area in Dalveen just south of Warwick.
Today we drove all the way through rain, heavy at times, until just south of Uralla. So this area should, at least, be safe from bushfires for a while. Now we are parked up at Moonbi Lookout rest area. An elevated area, as you can tell by the name with a large flat area. Tomorrow we will continue heading south. Cheers all from Alice
If the rest area is up at the lookout, be VERY careful when exiting the access road, to the highway again. Friend travels in a Troopy based camper - not the quickest off the mark, but not all that long either. In the Tamworth direction, there is a crest not far from the intersection. Friend was exiting the lookout road, to cross the divided highway, to turn towards Tamworth. Was cleaned up by a 4WD that was travelling at speed limit (or more) and came over the crest. She didn't see it appear until too late. They didn't see her in time to take evasive action. Police told her it is the site of regular accidents.
Check out wallabadah free camp south of Tamworth, a great memorial to the first fleet & camp site, but might be abit early for a camp if you are only comming from Moonby.
Regards, travel safely.
