I was a career fire-fighter for 39 years. I attended 4 caravan fires (total write-off) in that time. I have never seen a partly burnt caravan, you will not save it! They are not that common. 3 were cooking stuff-ups. We cook outside. Bad weather, microwave. 1 was due to a gas fridge alight while towing. Never, never, never! I carry 2 x 1 kg dcp extinguishers in caravan (1 each end). 1 x 4.5 kg in back of tow vehicle. Chuck that useless ionisation smoke alarm away, by the time it sniffs the smoke, it is about 60cm above you! Invest in a GOOD brand (ASA approved), photoelectric. It "sees" the flame (flame before smoke). No, it does not activate when you light the gas stove, not enough flame.
Let common sense prevail. Don't stuff about.....GET OUT!
Oh yeah generators. We have a 2.4 Yamaha (wouldn't be without it), on slide in back of tow vehicle. I never run out of fuel as I don't run it that long. Refuel when cold, not cool.
If common sense is used gas is not the monster some make it out to be. We never travel with the gas on only light it once we are set up. The night before we head off we set it on max and then when we head off it stays shut off until we reach our destination and even in 40 degree days it is still cold inside. It is a pain some times but then I don't have to worry about fuelling up. Just waiting for the day a servo goes up and the gas fridge is found to be the fault. I would think the insurance mob would say you're on your own. That said I laugh at the signs that say turn off your phone.....there are way more sparks happening when you turn the ignition key.
