i shop at coles as they give you points for every dollar you spend woolies dont
i trade my points using 1000 points for fuel and get 10 cents of my next fuel bill
as i shop at coles anyway the next time i shop it shows up that i have 14 cents or 18 cents of the next time i buy fuel mind you, you do need to spend $30 or more to redeem but it works very well for us we have saved a lot of money this way
when i shop next time i will get 18 cents of a litre
also we use it when we fill the nissan up and 2 jerry cans you can save up to over $15 which we have
when we went to adelaide and filled up at the coles servos they all commented that i had done my home work very well

Had you shopped at IGA, Foodland etc your shopping bill probably would have been over $15 less anyway, they don't give anything away.
Unfortunately where I live we have no choice, Coles is the only supermarket in town. This will change soon though, a new Shoping Centre is commencing construction soon housing Woolies, hopefully IGA and many more stores.

While I see that competition is needed I recall the days before the retail shopping centers got into the fuel business and there was certainly no competitive pricing by independents then and there isn't any now either. Lets face we all have to shop for our weekly needs and as there are no truly independent food retailers then it makes sense to shop with the one giving you at least something back even if it is smoke and mirrors

We have tried the exercise at Aldi, and find very little difference in pricing from our local Coles, but Coles has more variety and choice, and is certainly an easier place to shop.
So, all things being equal in that regard, I can trade 1000 flybuys for 10 cents off, or even regularly receive a 30 cent discount offer.
Filling up the landcruiser can save me up to $50 with the combined discounts.
No way would the other supermarkets match that even with heavily discounted prices.
I have yet to see the ACCC rushing to the aid of all of the small nurseries and hardware stores that have suffered at the hands of Bunnings predatory practices, so, other than having a more active lobby group, fail to see the difference here.

As someone who as worked in the Fuel industry for many,many years, I do not blame anyone for saving money with the use of fuel dockets, As Onedodger and others have said ?? when your tug holds 100 litres the savings are to good to knock back,
But do not believe for one minute that they are doing any favours,, ?? over the last 5-6 years I have seen the Independent fuel delivery vehicles that we service drop dramatically And the amount of trucks that service the Coles / Woolies outlets have risen dramatically, Once they have worked out how to get rid of the Major Independents like Apco and Liberty, ?? Then it will be an all knew ball game, ?? and time to recoup All that money it has cost them, to initiate this INVESTMENT to take control of the Fuel distribution business
Then you will still have a choice where to get your Fuel ?? Coles. or Woolworths -- And they will compete against each other for you Business, And they will still offer Shopper dockets to entice you to one store or the other,, BUT they will be setting the sell price at what they agree on -- as there is NO Independents to keep the B--tards honest
As I have said before on this subject ?? It could finance my retirement ?? If I can just convince a couple of hundred people to buy there fuel through me // ?? and I will go on the daily market prices ?/ and give you a 8 cents per litre off for the next 2 years
however !! after that 2 year period, and the competition is gone ?? then you still must buy your fuel from me at a price I set However I will still give you the 8 cents per litre off !!
But now my selling price has gone from $1.50 per ltr -- to $2.60 per ltr ---- Hmmm!! don't like my price ??? Well you have a choice Go to Coles/ Woolies. but you will find that they are the same price as me, Ha Ha, and don't bother going to the Government for help ??? They already get the biggest slice of that $2.60 cents and they then get the Gst on the full $2.60, So they won't help you
So as I said Use the dockets for all there worth NOW while you can, as it is way to late to change anything, All we can hope for is we chose to stop towing our vans with our big fuel guzzling beasts, and buy a little fuel efficient VW polo or similar, to drive to the rivers and reminisce about ''remember when ''
Back in 2003/4 Woolworths were offering 4 cents a litre of petrol at the pump price of somewhere between 60 and 70 cents. This equates to around 7.5% discount. Today with the price of petrol at $1.50 they are still offering in the main 4 cents a litre which equates to a discount of 3.75% ( I think)
So who is being conned. Yes you and I the customers are being taken for a ride.

I work for a company the supplies to Coles Woolies and IGA and i visit all three every week.
Woolies and Coles seem to have similar prices, Woolies a bit cheaper.
Super IGA are probably 5% dearer and normal IGA 15% dearer.
The reason Independent servos are going broke is because they can't compete with the lower fuel prices.
Exactly Norto!!! But the independent servos don't have huge grocery chains whose profits make up the shortfall. When all the Independents are gone the Big 2 can charge whatever they like because there'll be no competition.

Only this morning my mechanic warned me of the danger of using (low grade discounted diesel fuel) his words, in particular that supplied by W/worths and Coles, in his words "you will save a few dollars on a fill, but, in the long run you will be paying me a lot more in repair bills.

One needs to be extremely careful making unsubstantiated claims, such as these. The cost of fuel will have little bearing on the quality of fuel and I expect both those retailers mentioned would only be supplying their outlets with highest quality fuel.
One needs to check with the vehicle manufacturer (handbook) as to the suitability of Bio Fuels, most current diesel vehicle will recommend a maximum mix, such as, up to 10%
