No grease

This is an idea a nice elderly chap told me about at Kununurra on my last trip,he said get a garbage bag cut it into about 8 inches or 200 mill squares wipe off all the grease on the tow ball and place about six or eight pieces of the plastic bag squares over the ball then hook your van on, plastic can't come out,I have heard of it but never tried it until this last trip, works great the plastic takes the place of the grease, you have to change the plastic every hook up,well I did, leaves the tow ball nice and smooth, here is a couple of Pics of what I did.the grey garbage bags are the better ones, mine were orange .
This has probly been done before let's call it a refresher.

Hi Brian
I didn't believe it until I tried it it does work,I felt the old chaps ball on his 4wd that told me it was so smooth, I expected the ball to be ruff as guts but just the opposite,it does were through the plastic but does the job unbelievable .

We use the plastic shopping bags from supermarkets - fold them over a few times and they work a treat.

I started using this method after quizzing an older gentleman about the plastic poking out of his trailer coupling. I also use cut up UHT cartons and plastic milk bottles cut to size and they work great no grease and no signs of wear on the tow ball.

Cheers Kev.

Hi Kev
I have been thinking of plastic milk bottles, I thought they maybe to thick, do you use one or more pieces of a milk bottle Kev ,at a time that is.

You can also use the plastic idea (bags or other) for the WDH bars to stop any creaks and groans.

Well well,
just goes to show you never too old to learn!!
never seen this idea, in my 30 yrs of caravanning, but yes a great idea, and recon it should work,
personnaly I have never greased my towball on any of our vans, and not heard any groans or creeks, in fact I always believed the dryer the better as the friction slowed up any swaying.
