That is very, very nasty what sort of human being (if you can call them that) would do such a cruel thing? This sick person/person's as far as I am concerned have a mental problem, and should be scheduled and treated by a mental health team!!!! or pherhaps, forced fed their own poison.

Scum ! Absolute scum. To do a thing like that.
The degenerates who do this sort of thing think it is "funny".
The good thing for them is the law protects them
from what I would like to do to them in return.

That is horrible, totally agree with all comments from others.
A few mornings ago I was running the boys in a park where we often go, as do lots of dogs and I got a bit of a scare, the boys put there noses down and I called them in straight away as the body language told me they had found food, sure enough a pile of dog biscuits, looked innocent enough but who dumps a large bowl of dog biscuits in the park? Had they been baited?

There are some very sick people around that is for sure.

Very sad!
I was in areas of 1080 baiting earlier in the year. I bought my dogs muzzles. They allow the dog to drink but not eat. I ended up at a gold prospecting camp in the bush 100kms from Kalgoorlie. Dogs had the muzzles on nearly all the time. Same when crossing the Nullarbor. They didn't like it much but they're alive. My Labrador will eat anything, despite trying to train her not to!!!! Bless her cottons ;)

We do the same with our much loved Lab whenever in the outback, there is no way back from a 1080 bait.

Your right they don't like having to wear a muzzle, however they get used to it, certainly better than losing a much loved family member.

We bought here first muzzle when she was about 9 months old, turned out it was too small and she would try to get it off at every opportunity, must have been hurting her, the next size up solved the problem.

Not to say that this is NOT happening but the photo has been circulating for some time around the 'net and at last count there were around 15 or so parks in Melbourne area that they were reputed to have been found. It's a bit like the coloured flags/clothes pegs/clips that are supposed to indicate where dogs are located so that dognappers can come back and steal dogs for dog fights (either as "training bait" or those breeds that would be used in the fights). Lots of anecdotal reports but not much in the way of specifics. 1080 - yes. Be very wary.

Nonetheless, be careful out there. Got a reply to a post on another caravanning forum recently that stated "thank goodness more and more free camping areas are banning dogs" which indicates a pretty negative attitude.

What I would do to them the LAW WOULD WANT TO BE THERE TO PROTECT THEM, the LOW LIFE ???????sds.  As far as finding any in caravan parks, ring the local radio station, name the caravan park on air, I would try to do much damage as possible to them, so their reputation goes down the gurgler. TOUCH MY DOG I TOUGH YOUR FACE. furious

So far I have not come across too many free camps with no dogs signs.
Of course all pet owners do need to be vigilent re 1080 but lets not forget other nasties like traps and even the more every day stuff like discarded chicken bones that can easily do serious damage to a dog. Also food scraps that have 'gone off' if a dog gets into some of those yucky plastic containers they can make themselves very sick indeed.

As for the dog nappers, only this morning in the local rag there are staffies going missing in numbers two suburbs away....I recall many years ago when I volunteered at the AWL kennels in SA we had 2 whole rows of abandoned English Bull Terriers, with marker pen messages written on their flanks to say they were 'too soft to fight'

It's just another way of trying to take our small freedoms away from us, enjoyng the companionship of our furry mates, enjoying freedom camping, doing anything that gives us pleasure that does not impinge on anyone else's freedom or pleasure....

Yes I know I'm preaching to the converted here, but what's wrong with some people? Do they not accept that we are animals too? And we are actually the least trustworthy and loyal of animals. I understand that some may prefer cats or birds to dogs, but in my too many years I have never met a person who  doesn't like any animals that I would trust. And even the most trustworthy of friends and family is not as loyal and honest as my dogs (small granddaughter excepted, she's not old enough yet for deceit!)

In this as in other crimes I think it's time we made the punishment fit the crime. Harming my dog is harming my only companion and should be seen as such.

There are some really sick people out there, you have to wonder what they are thinking. It's difficult enough keeping our dogs safe while we are travelling without having to deal with things like that.

Lets hope they are caught soon and charged with something not sure what they would do with them.

Cheers Veronica

No size on my dog muzzles. I have Labradors. But most pet shops (if not in as shopping centre) let you take your dogs in for a fitting.
Some dogs just can't help themselves, and, as previously commented, dry and brittle bones cause damage too.
They detest the muzzles, but it's for their own good..... That's what I tell myself anyway

PS... I'm actually considering gluing some soft cushioning around the inside of the plastic muzzle, hoping it will be a more comfortable muzzle experience

Here we go. Can't find pics from archives, so trust me that the pic is the choc coloured dog, on a choc coloured couch! But u will see the muzzle, and they are the only ones that stop a dog picking up poison bait and allow them to drink. She hates it, but she's alive ;)

Thanks Pam, last pic a shocker, here's a better one, and I notice it has "No 7" on the side. The size perhaps?

The Coppers could get a finger print off the top of those studs,

Any two year old would scoff that down with out thinking about it,

Every dog would Vacuum them up,

Dog baits; bl......disgusting. The national parks bait dropping kills a lot
of innocent wild life, crows pick it up and drop it in your
property, and the wild dogs and foxes don't touch it most cases, they're not that stupid.
About time this practice is abandoned like in most countries, where it is regarded
as cruelty to animals. Our Government is a pack of outlaws with a license to kill.
The humane way to kill wild dogs is shooting them, but that is not cost effective though.
Like I said Councils and Government are anti dog, but dog registration is not cheap any more
we get nothing in return just a dog pound which charges big bucks to get your dog back, when
it goes astray, be quick or it's in the gas chamber.
Nothing is done to stamp out dog fight rings that is placed in the "too difficult basket".

Council rules....oh my god !!!! You won't believe it !!!
We had to build a dog kennel to house our 6 huskies, hobby kennel,in rural residential area (two dogs permitted only),
we had regulations like building a block of flats, 10 miles of red tape and a soaking pit big enough for
a housing complex. It blew out to $30,000. from perculation and impact studies, ground water assessment,
signage and public notices, noise reflective boundaries, engineers drawings, plumbing and electrical, insulation,
150 mm slab, full kennel wall lining waterproof, roof vents . You see..we live in the land of red tape, and the worst anti
dog country on this planet. Guess what.....on final inspection they DID NOT WANT to go inside the building, not interested
only in the plumbing and drainage. A total bl....joke but expensive to get just a hobby kennel.

As they say in the classics; Rules is Rules Jacko !!!!!

Hey Keith..

What area do you Live in..
I know that where I live, we're on a 1/4arce block and we could have 2 dog's.. had to get a permit to get my little dog registered here..
I ran into problem's with my Ferret's.. if I only had 2 ferret's no problem's..

the issue was that At the time I was breeding 2 litter's per year..
- I was breeding Dark Sable Ferret's..[Want some Picture's just ask..]
so I had 11 ferret's... they have now all gone to be rehoused thru the Local ferret society.. so yeah the council's can be bloody rude..

What sort of low life would do that, well we know they are around, I just hope they get caught.

A sicko through a bait into the yard of our home years ago and poisoned our foxy, great little dog wouldn't harm anyone. furious

An earlier post mentioned crows dropping 1080 baits on their farm property, also be vigilant in WA at rest stops or free camps, some drop them there also, muzzles a good idea IMHO you don't know what your pet will pick up......not nice when they eat someones (droppings) at these stops either then lick you on the face as happened to me once before I was aware what they had been eating.
