Rainbow Beach area camping

Does anyone have any free or budget sites they know of around Rainbow Beach? We are new to this travelling lark and loving every minute (almost!!!) of the last 7 weeks but is all a learning curve to us and we are open to suggestions of places to go and things to do. Thanks.

If your rig is 4x4 then Inskip Point is a possible,
there are fees but I think they are nominal.
Little way out of town but very pretty.
A beaut part of the world.
Or you could do as an awful lot of backpackers do.
Ignore the "No Camping" signs along the beach car park area.
Last time we were there,as the shadows got long
campervans of all descriptions descended on the sheltered car parks.
( Just in case you can't see my tongue in my cheek, not recommended.)

Hahahaa thanks for the advice.....and the unofficial advice!!! I had wondered about that as someone had told us to just park up anywhere, Im a wuss tho so if there were
'no camping" signs I would never have slept :) We do have a 4x4 so Inskip Point sounds pretty good to me. Thank you

Ali and Al
I have just spent the last 7 odd weeks at Inskip Point and you really don't need to have a 4x4, as I have a Toyota Coaster converted to a motor home and there are 2 areas that you can get too without being in a 4x4, and the other 2 you do need one.
The fee is $5.60 per night per person.
You can have an open fire but you have to take you own firewood in with you.
There are toilets at each site.
There are also rubbish bins which are on the exits so you can drop your rubbish into them on the way out.
It is 15ks from MV Sarawak which is the furthest one along where the barge leaves from to go to Fraser if you want to go over there.
You will also need to take in water with you.
Now you can get water back in town at the water point which also has the dump point for your chem toilet.
There is a ice truck that goes around the grounds and sells ice, wood, papers, bait, bread, so you can get that if you need it.
But I wouldn't get caught by the rangers without a permit as the fine is high and they do go around just about everyday checking permits and making sure that campers are doing the right thing.
Hope this has helped.
For more info go to the government website for parks and they have all the info there.
