Road from Muswellbrook to Mudgee

Hello all - just wondering if anyone could tell me what the road is like from Muswellbrook to Mudgee via Sandy Hollow, Bylong to either Rylstone then Ilford or down to Sofala and then back up to Mudgee?  I know the road from Sofala to Hill End.   Also what is like to get to Ophir further down?  Thank you for your help.  happy camping.       smile

Sorry if this is too late...

  • Muswellbrook - Denman - Sandy Hollow is good quality sealed highway and mostly straight
  • Sandy Hollow - Bylong is narrow sealed road with no shortage of crests and blind corners, but not much traffic
  • Bylong - Wollar (i.e. heading directly towards Mudgee) is mostly unsealed and has some twists and turns, but was good quality when I drove it in early September
  • Bylong - Rylstone - Ilford is reasonable quality sealed road
  • Ilford - Sofala is good quality sealed road and now the truck route between Bathurst and Mudgee
  • Haven't taken the bridle track directly south from Hill End since the 90's so can't comment on that, nor going north from Hill End

The route via Bylong-Rylstone is very scenic and I'd recommend it.
