Hi Milo, I'm sorry about the problems you have been going through with your dad. I know the course well after my brother and I went through it for 5 years with our father until he passed last year. We would disable his cars, making sure they would not start when he wanted to go to town. He always refused to acknowledge that his license had been cancelled and any mention of it would start a fiery row. As you can imagine, over the period, this gave rise to a lot of soul searching. Although I would be the first person to say that there was no way my father should have been on the road, I can't agree that this is grounds to retest all drivers on the basis of age, as it works on the guilty until proven innocent system. We don't allow discrimination against any other parts of our community, disabled, racial, women etc Sorry to be a bore, but I also spent a great deal of time getting another old fellows licence reinstated for him after an over zealous occupational therapist, working on behalf of Vic Roads, took the 85 year old (who only used to drive his partner to the supermarket or to the park for an icecream during the quiet time of the day),and put him in a strange car, then directed him to drive all over town for over an hour, while she and the driving instructor tried to distract him. She then cancelled his licence on some fairly trivial faults. Enough from me. All the best with your dad. Dave.
