First of all I must say the people that work in this office need in my opinion a pay rise !!
Our appointment was for 10.30am,and was only waiting around 15 mins.
All went well for my worker who I was attempting to get some help.
So much info to take in regarding the options he has,so heading to my accountant next week, just to tick all the boxes.

Glad you got all the info you need herbie. We've always found the staff to be very helpful because we go in with the right attitude. I feel sorry for them when they get agro customers.

Yes very helpful and just was gob smacked at the amount of abled men and women there to hand their dole forms in.
There is just so much work in this area, there just is no excuse to not be working, it was like a school reunion they were all just annoyed that they were there and not out fishing, We are bringing workers in from all states and territories in Oz,and next week we start bringing in from N/Z to help fill these positions.
There must be something critically wrong with the welfare system in Oz to allow this to go on.
Someone said to me today that these type just know how to milk/ work the flawed system, and I think he was pretty spot on.
In the OP you passed on that the Centrelink staff said "She told us when the carbon tax is abolished all gov payments will have a claw back"
And then Brickies said "...... the last sentence of your post would be her opinion only it has been stated by the new government this would not be happening."
and therefore I said "... I guess you believe in Santa Claus as well ??"
I am more likely to believe that, with the demise of the "carbon tax" (when it does happen), a clawback of benefits will follow fairly quickly.
but .... hey .... mebbee there are a santy claws
[PS - however, if humour needs to be explained it shows the humour was not necessarily humorous]

If you think the Government would pay money out for when this carbon tax is defunct, I recon your the one who still believes in Santa Clause...I was quoting what the lady told us...We both know nothing about the Government compensating anyone for this carbon tax....I did say to her ,,,so they take it off companies and hand it back to others,so in the end it is a tax that can never be any thing other than to stifle companies doing big busness in Oz ,,I wont go into what her thoughts on it was.

HUH ... I think there certainly are crossed wires here ... you say above "If you think the Government would pay money out for when this carbon tax is defunct, I recon your the one who still believes in Santa Clause."
My "Santa Claus" comment was directed to the comment by Brickies that "... it has been stated by the new government this would not be happening" which I believe Brickies was saying that the 'new Govt' would not be clawing back payments that had previously been tied/generated from the carbon tax - because they said so during the election campaign.
Hence my comment "I am more likely to believe that, with the demise of the "carbon tax" (when it does happen), a clawback of benefits will follow fairly quickly." which I think is self-explanatory - be prepared for a reduction (claw-back) on pensions/benefits after the "abolition" of the "carbon tax".
I doubt if I can explain my position any more clearly ... and again, I reiterate if humour needs to be explained it shows the humour was not necessarily humorous.
Sorry for the confusion.
Cheers - John

I understand now and may I say I am not confused any more in your post RC, I was more confused as they were posted in the same section(block ) and just noticed your name...

Having just become unemployed and having to get Centrelink benefits for the first time in a long time I find these simplistic and incorrect assumptions distasteful. One does not attend a Centrelink office to submit dole forms in this day and age as this is done on-line or by phone. One attends the Centrelink Office so they can check up on your job seeking activities and/or to ensure you are meeting your obligations to allow you to retain whatever benefit you are receiving and this includes such things as single parent pension, disability pension and a number of other benefits other than unemployment benefits which are the lowest of all social security benefits provided in Australia. My first five visits to a Centrelink office were all about trying to understand the system and trying to work out which of the contradictory pieces of advice was actually correct. And if you think that the $225 per week unemployment benefit provides a reasonable lifestyle try living on it for a while.
I was only refering to what we observed in the few hrs we were at Centre Link, the banter between these particular people I was referring to was nothing more than blatant disgraceful, I am sure there is a lot of genuine people out there who for one reason or another have to apply for welfare of some kind...
Not ever visiting centre link before it was an eye opener for us both,to think people in this particular town between the ages of 18/35 would choose to be on the dole. ..And yes they were all doing fine on the payment as that's what some of them told us,when we mentioned re working ...They preferred fishing and going down to Aggy surfing. These people were there handing in dole forms. (they have no net or they told us ) and were going away for a few days fishing/surfing.....I doubt you would be doing all this if you had to survive on what you said you get,but I guess they sure ain't.
