We have just arrived from NZ. We have now purchased a caravan and wagon, and plan to travel and work in Oz. Can anyone please recommend an association? / club? we can join so we can get discounts on parks and other things on offer. I have looked on line but I am lost in confusion about which one would be most useful and suitable.We are both 60 and wondering also are there cards of some sort we qualify for? I would appreciate some help please. Thanks.
If you have a NZ over 60 discount card I am sure you could use it in Australia, But to get an Australian over 60 seniors card you would need a centrelink number , These card do not get you a discount at caravan parks , I did once have a Big 4 discount card which you pay money for but the price at these type of parks are much dearer than other park which don't belong to chain . Also the Big 4 Top Tourist and others are not always were you are and cost more to drive to there location than just pull into the nearest caravan park
Hello and welcome Dou-Val. a fantastic book is called Camps Australia 7 is out now and I saw it advertised in BCF this week. BCF stands for boating, camping and fishing and bcf is a shop. We had membership and agree with Brickies. Also, lots of expensive parks have stuff for kids like jumping castles and extras that we do not need. Many showgrounds will let you stay and they are a good price.
If you are in north Brisbane between xmas and new year there is the Woodford Folk Festival at Woodford, Queensland is a must see. it is the biggest festival in the southern hemisphere. You can camp there but we have a caravan and choose to camp at the local showgrounds.
If you come to Brisbane let us know and we can catch up for a cuppa. enjoy. rocket n strop
On one of our trips around Oz before we qualified for a seniors card and later a pension card, we used one of these.
As an example, it gave us discounts for places like Western Plains Zoo in NSW, Ferry and tour of Fraser Island, movies in Cairns and Darwin, Army Museum in Darwin etc, etc. Not all places recognise it but many do. We got knocked back at the old prison at Dubbo. Bear in mind there is no obligation on anyone to accept it. I would just ask if they gave a discount for the National Seniors Card showing the card, I think some of them may have assumed it was a government card, I am not sure, but the money we saved was fantastic.
On Camps Australia Wide (camps 7) you can buy it direct from the company with free delivery, also other apps for phones and gps. see;
They can also be obtained from the RAC (20% members discount), most camping stores and large book stores (Dymocks give 10% discount to seniors).
I don't know if NZ has a reciprocal agreement with road organisations in case of breakdown etc, so if not suggest you join either the RAC or NRMA depending on the state you are living in now, get the Ultimate cover which gives cover for your caravan also.
Hi. Kiwi-as and I are both over 65, receive the NZ pension and are disappointed that we cannot get all the discounts that Australians can. We show our gold card and sometimes it is accepted but not often. We ask for seniors discount and can get it if they don't want to see the proof. I don't feel that we are being dishonest.
We picked up some forms to apply for a seniors card but near the top of the form it stated "permanent resident" so did not take it any further.
We have joined top tourist parks $40 For two years, get 10% discount up to $30 per stay. We also do a lot of free camping.
After reading your post regarding your disappointment in not getting the same discounts as the Australian pension card holders receive,can I ask do Australians receive this same discount over in New Zealand from only holding the Australian pension/senior card...If your country accepts the benefits from people from Australia and Australia doesn't it appears pretty one sided.
I have visited New Zealand but not being a card holder it was no concern to me.
Thanks everyone for your kind welcome and your responses. We don't have a NZ Goldcard, as there was no real benefits for us back home. We are members with the AA ( Automobile Association ) in NZ and now have reciprocal rights with the RAVC here, but don't think they offer the same discounts. We will revisit their shop and check out the campsite books. We just got a good road atlas for starters, but I did see they had a god variety as membership prices. As we will be staying in some places for a number of weeks for work, I will have more time to read up about what is available.I am also still navigating about this site and look forward to contributing from time to time. I will check out the Top Tourist Parks membership, as it seens a very good price for what they offer.
Thanks again - Val ps. will have a profile photo once we get hooked up with our vehicles

Good point herbie. I have never thought of it that way. I don't know if NZ accepts Australian pensioner cards. Maybe I can look into it when we are home.
It might be worth visiting a Centrelink office if you are here for any length of time you may be entitled to an health card which would let you get a state senior card or may be able to tell if you can use your NZ card here
