 Just did a google on this at http://www.happywanderer.net.au/page.asp?parentid=19

And the Antenna is $199
Antenna bracket $110
Easy Tune $79a
Booster & Power Pack $94

Think I would (IMHO) go for the Sat option and pay the extra $80

Hi wombat ,I think you may be a bit out with your pricing ,Antenna $199.00 Telescopic mast $50.00 Booster signal finder$70.00 a total of $319.00 ,the trouble I seen people having with sat dishes was un believable they won't even work under trees,the antenna I have does.
PS one and a half minutes set up with mine timed it

Your best bet is to get a VAST system, I suggest  http://www.satplus.com.au/

Hi ;

    GME have many antenna amplifiers on the market. The MHW34F is the most common one that i have use. Caution, there is also a version ( MHW24F ) same specs as the 34F but with lower gain and it is possable to use these amplifiers off 12 Volts DC. Use good quality RG6 Quad cable from your antenna to the amplifier and also from the amplifier to your set top box/ television.

Hi Eleanor;

               Wombat also has a good point . The Vast service does and work very very well and this is the set up that i now have and for nearly 2 years now, no problems. It is a bit of a learning curve with the set up, but after you are shown a few times, you will get the hang of it, but it will work providing your satillight dish has a clear view of the sky and is pointed correctly.

I have up on trying to get television useing a good antenna, amplifier  ( booster ) teloscopic  mast  etc . Done away with all that and just now have a Vast set up.

Send me a PM if you want more information

 It's not a good idea to send a PM because other people maybe reading/following this post and also want more info, good idea to get info on VAST is to use the search function at the top of the page, there is a lot if info there about VAST

Hi Olley46,

The prices I quoted are from the happywanderer site, I agree you cannot use a sat dish under a tree, why would you want to park under a tree when we are out there for the fresh air and sunlight, you have probably guessed by now I have a Sat system and once you learn how to set it up it is not a problem, I have lost count of the times I have set up sat dishes for people, I now charge $20 to setup a dish, no signal no charge, all money goes to the RFDS.

All of what I have said is IMHO.

Take care Olley46 and enjoy your time on the road.

Be aware that an amplifier (and I agree that the MHW34F would be a good choice) needs to be coupled to a good antenna.

Also digital TV has a very abrupt cutoff when you reach the limit of its range from the transmitter. A couple of dB/V can make the difference between an acceptable picture and zilch. By contrast analogue transmissions deteriorated gradually, so if you were not too fussy, you could get a longer range.

Thank you for the advice, we have bought the suggested happy wanderer booster pack to fit on our old antenna,was sold to us by our local caravan shop as being really good. The tv worked in our yard with my husband holding the antenns up, so heres hoping we get a good reception in the towns anyway. Have heaps of movies on the hard drive otherwise. And hopefully will see the dockers win before we leave!

We had used a sat dish a few years ago, but the found our little rabbit ears worked with the anolog every where we went so didn't worry about taking it again. Have had to upgrade to digital and tried one set of rabbit ears and the wouldnt find any signal at all inside or outside our home.  Thanks for your time will send another message after a couple of weeks.
