What are they thinking?

Here I am resting quietly in a CP in Rockhampton. Restful sleep has arrived at 11pm

(Such Bliss) Then at 5.30am the quietness is disturbed by banging, clattering, loud voices and engines starting

up. By 6.30am the exodus begins, goodbyes have been said at top volume, then they clatter over

the speed bumps and disappear into wherever. Why do they leave so early? If they have to leave that early

to get to their next spot they are going too far. (End of Rant)

Kevin

Couldn't agree more. I'm completely unable to understand this mentality that it's OK to wake up all and sundry because they want to get away early. You usually find that this is a spurious need because they aren't actually on a timetable at all. Perhaps 'having' to leave so early makes them feel important or something. I dunno.

I don't think they have a lot to think with Kevin.

Ithonkyou will find that miners have taken over most cvan parks in the area, and start their days early. As they are flyin/fly out, they don,t care about anybody but themselves. Bill

It's not the miners Bill12, it's the caravaners, some with kids. We stayed at Roma and the miners

in the park there were very considerate and quiet. A bit of maintenance on caravan legs to stop the

squeal wouldn't go astray. Sorry still ranting.

Guilty as charged your honour. Soooooooorrrrrrry.

I must say in my defence though that the afternoon before departure I hook the Avan to the tug and have as much as possible done so in the morning it's just fire up the tug and slowly head off to the highways or byways.

The reason I leave early is I am awake early if I am leaving, always have been and looks like always will be, bugger. Once awake I can't just hang around so do leave at first light but I am fully aware of people around me.

This is in CV Parks or Alternative Camps.

OK I am against the wall if you want to shoot me now.smile

We too try to be as quiet as possible if leaving early.
Do as much as we can the night before.
So all we have to do in the morning is pull the top down and do the usual checks.

Oh dear... Reminds me of when I was a teenager, arriving home at 2am and heading straight for my parent's bedroom to tell mum all about my night out, completely oblivious to my father trying to sleep.

It seems to me that the ones that leave early never have time to lubricate the van legs. The best I have come accross has a 240v drill to wind up legs so he starts up generator (sure it had no muffler to add to squeek squeek) to run drill. Why the hell you would free camp and have a 240v drill, and leave before daylight.

Then I think, glad they out of my way when I get on the road.

There are some considerate miners though - most motels in mining towns ask that miners reverse park their vehicles so that the reverse beepers don't sound when they leave early.

I have to come to the miners defence in this discussion....

It is not the mine workers waking people up early in most cases ,it is the people travelling via motor home/ bus/ caravan. They stay over in the caravan park for the night to recharge every thing they own take over the washing machines due to free camping for days on end take over all the cloths lines or dryers, then decide to have a get together under the BBQ area with whom ever until the wee hrs talking loud/ laughing and drinking then all yell out there good nights a 100 times to each other

Then up at the crack of dawn making more noise hitching up and dropping stuff into the back of vehicles and we go through the same saga all over again yelling out there good buys meet up down at the next free stop is about the last thing you hear.

So as for miners not having any respect for fellow travellers I beg to differ. All us are lucky really in regard to this happening in the park we are camped up at moment as the owner recons he would rather have miners than that to put up with the whining of the nomads....He recons it is not worth the hassle.

So as for miners having no brains it is not easy these days to get a job in mining due to all the IQ tests and police checks and so forth...They probably have more brains than a lot of the population in other jobs.

And as for miers leaving early from any caravan park early in the morning would not be possible as all the mines are located far to far away for them to leave at that time to get to the mine to start work.Just beacause people wear fluro work clothes doesn't mean they work in mining. But I guess the easiest people to blame is the mining industry. But remember it is this industry that is keeping this country afloat...So some give and take would be the way to go.

Straight up there is the problem do nothing the night before, when you wake have a leisurely breakfast a nice shower, a bit of a walk about, by then most of the park will be up. If they aren't you got up to early.
It is funny tho, we travel 100 to 200 k a day and you would be surprised how many of the early leavers are at the same park as the one we stop at. Bit different if you intend staying at a popular free spot, it is good to get there as others leave.

There's a camping ground in the lower Sunshine Coast hinterland - the one-man-band owner gets around everywhere on his noisy quad-bike. Most nights a couple of backbacker wizz-bangs sneak in after the office is closed, probably hoping to sneak out again in the morning. But, he has the jump on them he walks around the ground just after 5.00-5.30 am and knocks on their doors asking for the fees - none can escape him !

We've just travelled 1230k's in 3 days and did early starts to accomplish this. But we were as quiet as possible, plus apologised in advance to neighbors. Its tiring, I wouldn't recommend this kind of travelling with a caravan, just had to do it this time for an important family time....

The miners in Port Headland were on shift-work and came and went at all hours. It was refreshing that they tried to be quiet and often snuck out/in without us hearing. Much less consideration as herbie says from some groups of Grey nomads.

We had early appointments in the city, so we decided to stay overnight at a CP. We were parked near the beach in a cabin, we watched the sun set over the ocean, if was so peaceful listening to the sounds of the waves....then at 7am the family next door let their young kids ride there bikes and bounce a basketball right outside our bedroom window....we were not impressed. I understand its hard keeping kids quiet, but geez think of the neighbours.
