This is my first, and I hope not last, post. The boss and I are looking at buying a motorhome (taking one for a test drive on Saturday). Looking at a few short trips to check everything out, then off on the big trip around the country. Any tips or general advice would be very much appreciated.
Welcome Jan n Paul, there is mountains of good advice on the forum, read through a few of the topics and when something does not make sense please ask, the friendly people on the forum are happy to help.
I have been asking questions on here for about a year, when I look back I realise how silly some of my questions were at the time, but people happily answered them, and thankfully did not make me feel like a fool.
Welcome Paul,,, try hiring one for a month and get around a bit. You'll get heaps of advice (and see things) and experience to enable a better decision IMHO.

Thank for the welcomes. We used to do a fair bit of travel in the past with an old Cub pop-up camper trailer. Now that we're a fair bit older and retired, decided that more comfort was called for.
Hello Paul and welcome to the forum, what type of motor home are you thinking of buying? new, pre loved, camper van,c-class.My advise is look around, look around and look around again,we looked for two years before we found the motor home that really suited our needs. It's an expensive item and you want to get it right, one suggestion I make is test the bed. What I mean is lay on the bed for a few minutes, check the length of the bed (as they are narrower and shorter than the home version) some seem to become uncomfortable after a few minutes(depends on the mattress type)When travelling you have to travel lightly(you can't take everything with you)So think of what you will be needing and look to where it will go when travelling.I'm sure you will get more ideas and suggestions from other forumites. Good luck with your looking .The main thing is when you get the motor home ,get out there and enjoy yourselves.cheers Peter.

Hi and welcome to the site - we have a Jayco Conquest and are quite happy with it - suits our needs. Of course, bigger would give us more room, but the fuel bill would be bigger as well, and possibly require a license upgrade - if you are getting one like ours, the one thing I would say is get one with a bed over the cab, as well as in the "house" - the top is great for storage - we had a thing made so things don't fall out - from an old wire door (the diamond pattern aluminium type) - friend cut it in half, bent it to suit, made a closing device for it! Works a treat - got a bit tired of things falling on our heads while driving along!!
