Hi i am a brand new member, We are two Scot,s couples and touring Aus. Jan. Feb. 2014. the two guys worked at Mt. Newman late sixties early seventies & have arranged a tour of the mine in in Feb. We are having great difficulty getting affordable accommodation within striking distance of the mine. Any advice would be appreciated, ,thanks Dougie
Every thing around Newman is expensive as it is the hub of the mining recourse in WA.
Your best option would be to send a email to the Newman Tourist information centre regarding accommodation.
But you would really have to do it like now, The accommodation up there is booked out buy the mining companies and the other contractors who work up there. So you may have to take what ever is available and just be happy you were lucky to get accommodation. But you would also have to pay for it when you book as that's the way they operate up that way.
If in a motor home I am told you just park at the tourist info centre overnight. Room for caravans also. CP at newman was $36. Camp area south of Capricorn. Mine tour at 9.30.

Are you wanting a c/van park or motel accommodation as that would make the difference in both price and availability...C/van parks in my way of thinking in Newman are pretty basic affairs, but for under $40 around there is a fair price to pay.
