Does your Rig have a "Name"?

Hello fellow Nomads

We have only recently started to travel full time in our very first van and we have been debating what "Name" to call our rig.

Does your rig have a name?

Do you tag / mark your rig so others can identify you?

As this is my very first post, please be gentle with me!

Cheers - Weg

Welcome DebnWeg, I am sure all will be gentle with you and welcome you. I have been pondering that exact question. I have thought about and travelling goddess, as opposed to domestic goddess, and then I thought about using my tag name Shekon, as that word is iroquoi indian for hello and goodbye, so that might be appropiate also. I am going to be travelling in a Wirraway motorhome so something areonautical might be nice also, as by chance my late husband was an airline pilot so I am sure my boys could come up some kind of name for me, but somehow I think She:Kon will be it.
Oh I have just thought of something else also might be even better, when I was in Canada many years ago I was given an Indian name that mean "free woman with wind in her hair", ok that is it Nion Kionka. Thank you for the post I now have a name for my MH.

See you have been a wonderful contribution for your first posting. Sorted out my thought processes and at the moment I need all the help I can get, with packing up the house and organising what to put in storage, what to sell, and what to give away. So thank you.

Nice one Billeeeeeeee!

thanks She:Kon ... I think either are great names, especially as they both shave a significant meaning to you. Let me know what you do.

Cheers - Weg.

Hi Shekon,
Just love Nion Kionka. Means a lot to you so it is an apt name. It will also be a great conversation starter around the camp sites.

Ours is called "Odanata' which is the name for Dragonflies. My partner has a collection of Dragonfly broaches and pendants which mean a lot to her.

Hi DEBnWEG,

I am sure you will come up with something apt and will suit you and your rig. So many names will come up you will be spoilt for choice and like Shekon something will jump out and you will use it.
Safe travels when you get out there.

I was given a tip recently by a long time traveller.
Stick a small red sticker on all the stuff you put in your van and if you use it take the sticker off. If after six months the red sticker is on any item think seriously about getting rid of it or putting it in storage.

Hi DebnWeg and welcome to the forum. Theres been a few topics on this in the past, if you use the search facility you might find some.

Bear in mind, if you have a CB radio, and have your name on the back of your van, truckies will use it to identify you when the call up to say they are coming past. "Shekon" is brilliant, great meaning, easy to say. "Nion Kionka" might be a mouthful for some and is personal to you... but I love it!

just a thought, might be safer to choose a name if being displayed that doesn't advertise you as a single travelling alone.

Love Billee's Conquest....very clever

Hi DEnWEG and welcome.

I don't recommend using your first name on your RV as its too easy for someone to call out your name at night pretending to know you. RV names OK. Mines "Somewhere"

Ours is called "C.R.A.F.T.Y. Ol' Buggas" People sometimes ask us if we do craft! NO.. It stands for "Can't Remember A Flaming Thing Yeah Ol' Buggas"... We had quite a number of different ones but settled on this which we love.

G'day DEBnWEG ... We don't have the name painted on the van yet, but we do have a name. We have decided to call it the 'Nautillus' after Jules Vern. So many people have come up and reckon it looks like a submarine with the port holes. We've even had a truck go past, call up his mate telling him that he's just passed a submarine on the road.

Cheers
