I topped up and it was $25.10, picked up 2lt milk, went to pay.

I said No. 7 and the milk please. He said $38.40...I said NO the little white Corolla $25,10.

He said that's already been paid for!!! I was left to pay the higher amount.furious

I didn't have to pay the $38.40  smile   but other car had driven off.

What a Cheek...

Sorry Milo

I put $25.10 petrol in my car and picked up milk. Went to pay and someone had paid my $25.10 so I was expected to pay theirs. If he hadn't said the amount I would have just paid it and been none the wiser.

Surely all they have to do is roll back the CCTV, look at who's vehicle is at what pump, and then look on the console at what each pump has dispensed.
Not that hard really especially if your standing there holding the keys to the vehicle that has the lesser amount of fuel!!
Even if the other person has gone, your own vehicle is still at the pump..........

Sounds like the console dude wasn't paying attention to what was going on and stuffed up.

I understand what you are saying , it happened to me some time ago , the other bloke filled his 4wd up , large bill , then waited till I had topped up , smaller bill .... he then attempted to pay my bill & drive off ......this would leave me with his bill .... fortunately the console operator said - no sir that is not your bowser to him .... I was not even aware till she told me as the conversation was happening !

Can understand it happening, just about as bad as driveoffs.
I have a bad habit of not looking for the number of the pump but always take note of the dollar amount as I finish pumping.

I have had the same situation happen and I knew how much I had put in the tank so that was what I was paying for.

The console operator was not happy but I said I was not paying for something I did not get and left it at that.

It is something I watch for now.

I have experienced the same problem.  The previous customer had paid, but somehow it hadn't been checked off the computer.  I bought $70 worth of fuel and the servo tried to charge me $123.  I told them there was not way I could have fitted that in the tank as it wasn't that low.  They eventually agreed to accept my $70, but I think they thought I was trying to rip them off. Modern technology is not always fail proof.

Cheers!

Chris

Appears that the drive buy thief has stepped up a notch and stooping to this level now.

Mark they probably know the CCTV camera isn't operating in certain servo's so that's where they aim there next target at.

How many other servo's has this thief hit before hitting the one you get lumbered at.

They could end up getting their vehicle filled for zilch if they just kept doing this at a few different servo's around one area.then next week move on to an other area and do the same.

They probable know it is safer to do this act of theft than the drive buy act.

Before long we will have to pay before we fill up with fuel to stop this theft.

Some places already have implemented this practise.

Not such a bad idea Milo

Where I lived in the UK, not uncommon at all, or you put your credit card in and it deducted it automatically after checking it's validation.  Or, some had limits at certain times, there are ways of dealing with this quite easily.

Funnily enough, I filled my 200 series one day, and then proceeded to fill four jerry can's, after I got to about 140 litres, the pump shut off and the guy came out to see what I was doing as he got suspicious of how my vehicle could take so much fuel, so a switched on attendant can also be very worthwhile.

in the US you have to give your credit card to the cashier before they turn the pump on problem solved

No one has ever tried that with me. Maybe because i fill both tanks when i fill up and the bill is usually just over $200.00. Having said that they did try to charge be around $1500.00 when i filled at the truck pump at a busy truck servo.. but i pointed to the camera monitor and said that's mine there.. the little one.. lol

When I travelled through Texas last year and filled up with fuel, the operators only turned one pump on at a time and would not turn mine on until the previous had paid.
Now I know why.

It amuses me that we are so ready to be put-out to appease the thieves. Pay for fuel (service) before you use that service! I live in Australia, not the damn USA.
It's up the supplier (service station) to employ staff that are on top of whats going on around them. Why should I be put out because their security is not up to scratch? I pay enough for diesel now without doing their job as well.
