Hi campers, Just returned from our winter holiday and came back with a damaged awning. Probably clipped an overhanging tree somewhere. Having it replaced next week...Now, any ideas on how to protect the new one from same problem? I thought there was a plastic cover could be bought, but awning repairer didn't know of those... Any ideas please? Thanks, Jay-Jay
I had one specially made by Southern Cross Canvas in Melbourne (No interest in the company). I had a strip of vinyl made about 150mm wide by the length of the awning. Have a rope track sewn down one edge and the other edge arrange for hoops the same as used on ute tonneau covers. You will need to attach an aluminium track to the van above the current awning. Careful when you do this as a heavy hand can get a hole all the way through. You will also need to fit the hooks to the van. This will/should prevent snagging but also sunburn on the awning. As these awnings roll into themselves the bit nearest the van is always exposed to the sun causing fading and possibly cracking over time. I can send some photos in a personal email if you want to see what I have done, if you want and no, they won't be selfie shots.
