so yes it has been a very long time since the last update, but i blame Pete. I'm not sure why but I'm sure its his fault.
At the moment Pete and I are parked up at a caravan park in Kununnara enjoying a bit of down time, it has been a very busy two months since we left.
im not going to bore you all with everything that has happened in the last 6 weeks but i will try to give you a bit of an overview.
Edith falls was lovely, the lower pool were about 100m from our camp spot and the top pools about a 2km walk which we did one hot day to cool of in the rock pools. Teagan (my step daughter) found the lack of tv reception and mobile coverage hard to take for the five days we were there and it got even worse when she came to the end of candy crush!!!!! at this point i have to say the decision to by satellite tv was made cos i missed my nightly news, it became like a drug that i needed and i would turn the radio (the only station we got) on every hour just the make sure the world had not ended....loll
after this was Kakado and a lovely trip down yellow waters river and other tourist things. It was also here that Danny, Debbie and Julie (friends from victoria) joined up with us for the next part of our trip. this was darwin were we stayed at humpty doo at the back of Friend's (dave and barb) mango shed. thats right everyone there were boxes and boxes of mangos!!!!! As most of you know we were due to go to Bali after a few days in Darwin but Debbie was non the wiser on the planed overseas trip. Now we love Deb but I'm still surprised that we managed to get her all the way into the airport, checked onto the flight bags included (which Teag's and i had packed without her knowing) and up to the international departure lounge before we had to say 'by the way were going to Bali'......lol she was one surprised girl!!!
Bali was Fantastic and Pete, teag's and i were so excited to meet up with Stacey and Glenn. The resort was fantastic and the food in and around Semeyak was so gooooooood. needless to say my favourite thing was the massages of which we had everyday (and often twice a day). Stacey and Teagan dragged Pete in for his firs massage which to his surprise he enjoyed. the only thing that still scares me a little is that it was a back, neck, shoulder massage and he took all his clothes off....hmmm not sure how he thought that massages was going to end!!!!
Glenn and Stacey took us to some of the most amazing places to eat, BBQ seafood on the beach and to a place called Potato Head a cross between a Vagas hotel pool and a five star restaurant would be the best way to describe it. Overall much fun was had by all exspesially in the pool where the girls tried to drown their dad and i fell in love with the swim up bar and a drink called the spider man - a fruit tingle but stronger......lol.
At this point we went back to Darwin, spent a great weekend with Dave and Barb and then teagan left us (sad face) to go to broome before heading home. This left the five Amgo's were on the road again heading towards WA and the Gibb River Road in the Kimberleys's. We detoured via lake Argyle were pete took me on a sunset cruise for my Birthday :)
Now the Gibb River Road - hmmmmm what can i say, it was 1000 km of shaking the be gee's out of the car, the little red truck casualty list reads, two smashed driving lights, one missing cb antenna, two large dents in the roof (pete did not tie the fire wood down) and more dust than we know what to do with. Having said that the water falls and pools were fantastic with the helicopter flight over Mitchell falls a real highlight of the trip.
The end reward of the 1000km was Broome, what a lovely town in the middle of no where, the water is a blue that is beyond description and the beach was a lovely white. As we approached Cable Beach Danny suggested a drive down the beach as you are allowed to take the cars right onto the sand, Sounds great we all said. Now this is were is all went wrong. Some part of me knew off the nudist beach but i was not prepared (at all) for the sight that i encountered.
Pete "sylv look at that" so i did!!! oh my god!!!! it was a wrinkly old leathered man with the biggest "tackle" that i had every seem!!!!! at this point i think it has been confirmed that i am a prude cos all i kept thinking was "PUT IT AWAY!!!!!!" as we drove on pete in his helpful way kept pointing out all the old naked men and women, although i think the highlight for him was the naked fisherman.....lol.
this bring us full circle back to kunnunara to collect our caravan and have a bit of a rest. Danny, Debbie and Julie have now left us for their track back south. We plan to head to Broome in the next few days and will stay there for a week (election and footy finals see both pete and i want to make sure tv will be available)
We miss you all but not enough yet to come home (we have not seen a day under 30 degrees in over 4 weeks)
Wow that was a fantastic story i realy enjoyed reading that, you sound like you have all had a wonderful
time together ,memories that will last forever, i love the gibb river road story too.
Oh the old naked beach hey, good lord i went to one of them NOT knowing when i was about 16 it was
horrifying it seems its always oldies that hit them ,and yes i too saw an old man and he had a fair bit of
tackle or should i say a good fishing rod ,but old and wrinkly was not appealing .lol
Good to read your trip update - sounds like you are having a ball - keep on keeping on as they say! Did you get into Tunnel Creek or Wundjina Gorge? Both well worth a visit, in my opinion. We stayed at Fitzroy Crossing, left the camper and just drove in for the day. Also the Geiki Gorge tour is a must do!! Right up close with crocs!!!
