Caravan Levelling

This is just the most useful thing when it comes to getting the caravan level.

I've got one of these gadgets already and I'm taking it off because The bubble has jammed up one end. I'm going back to using my little 150mm level. Cost about $2.00 and never fails.

You have to be careful with some of those "T" van levels - the red ones will fade/crack and eventually distort in the sun. Gerty's one looks like one of the better units. I reckon they are great too.

Where do you get it please? Does it have to be a caravan place?

Ours was at a caravan dealers shop, but surely they would be available elsewhere?

Bunnings only had a cheap plastic one, which I thought wouldn't stand up to the weather, and my local Mega Mitre 10 didn't have one at all.

So I reckon I'll just keep using the one I have for the time being.

Beth, I actually use one of these, okay, it's not connected to the van but does the same job.

I keep mine in the caravan front locker and when I'm ready to level up, whip it out and put it on the "A" frame.

Your right, the plastic ones will degrade in time.

These are definately available at Bunnies

That's the kind I already have and I keep it in the drawer just inside the door of the van.

I just thought it'd  be handy to have the other one fixed there, easy peasy.

I've never owned a caravan so please forgive if it seems a silly question, but why is it so important to have the caravan perfectly level? I find that the camper van has to be very uneven before it bothers me as long as I'm not sleeping "head-down"

Mainly for the fridge if it's running on gas dog lady. But don't ask me the technical reasons why. confuse

I finally found one at Masters. It's a Stabila brand, which is supposed to be good quality. It's still plastic but seems like a more sturdy plastic than the one at Bunnings.

We need to level our van not just for the fridge, but for using a frypan so all the fat doesn't go to one side, so the water runs out of the sink when we pull the plug but most importantly as our AVAN folds out, it needs to be on level ground otherwise it puts undue strain on the hinges when raising it.

GD, your level is showing you are not level so you will fall out of bed :))

I use one like Mark's, works for me anyway and soooooo easy.

I use a pole level on the drawbar.
Easy, magnetic and quick.
Store in boot out of the weather, especially the sun.

SNIP

It's OK Beth, I'm one of those skinny buggers,  love the fat running down my chin from KFC mmmmm I'm drooling at the thought of it. I suppose it's not really fat but oil which is probably a little bit better. My wife refuses to buy chocolate biscuits as I eat a full packet in one sitting and still eat my tea. Never eat breakfast though, can also miss lunch but must have tea. Maybe a beer too.

Regards.

We got one of the T levels and glued it into an old mini cigar tin.
Riveted the tin to the drawbar. Flip the hinged tin open.
Ready to get "on the level".
Sprayed some Linox in the tin for good measure.

I use one of the T shaped levels fixed to the A frame.

To set it up ..

- Level the van precisely, using a good quality level placed as near as possible to the fridge.

- Put the T level on the A frame in a bed of adhesive (I used some 2 part builders bog)

- Press on the T level until it shows level on both bubbles.

- Wait until adhesive/bog set hard.

- Cut away excess adhesive to neaten up the job

- Fix level permanently in place with self tapper screws.

- Paint the level (not the 'glass' tube dummy) with silver galva prime.

Mine has not buckled or got out of level in >14 yrs.   I check it from time to time as I do my regular maintenance.
