Get some fine-pointed tweezers and pull it out Chopit. There are a few things people say will make the tick detach, but my experience was that the only thing to do is simply pull them out. If its been there a while and is getting big, it will be quite hard to get it out.

Hi Sheba I spray my dogs Permoxin mix with Methylate Sprits ( Dry's quicker) daily as well as daily searching. You can also wash there bedding wih it.Hope this helps.
I use advantix on my dog.
As soon as spring hits it has to be used every two weeks.
This can be an expensive thing so we buy it online. Much cheaper than buying it from a vet

While at a swap meet recently I found a pair of curved artery forceps.
I think they should help get ticks out that make contact.
Gentle grasp around the head and pry up as you would with a claw hammer on a nail.
I had heard elsewhere that acertone ( finger nail polish remover ) on a tick does the trick.
That stuff will kill anything so I guess it would kill a tick.
We live in a high paralysis tick area. In tick season we put Frontline on our girl every two weeks. On the odd occasion that she does get a tick I literally drown the tick with liquid "Tropical Rid", leave it for about 10 minutes and then remove it. According to our local vet the tick will start to remove itself and then die making it much easier and safer to remove it.
This method works on humans as well.
Another important thing to know about ticks is that they screw themselves into the flesh in a clockwise motion so when you are removing them you should pull them out in an anti-clockwise motion. This way you will have a better chance of getting the head out. If the body comes away from the head the tick can still keep injecting venom.

I have just read elsewhere a method supposed to be effective.
Soak a cotton bud in liquid soap.
Swab the tick for 20 seconds or so.
The tick withdraws and can attach to the cotton bud.
May be worth a shot.
I picked up a leaflet at the local chemist, and was hoping that the personal one was effective against mosquitoes, so asked the chemist about them. He said they'd had good feedback on the pet gadget, but they only work for ticks, not other insects. Has something to do with the mega Hz range at which the critter can hear.
Any means of keeping the critters off ourselves and our pets without using poisonous chemicals is a good thing!
Another good trick used by some dog breeders is to have a jar of Vicks Vapor Rub handy. Put a dob on the tick and soon it will back out of the dog. Friends of mine have done this for years
