This has always been a gripe of mine - till a few months ago, the only Australian made toothpaste was Cedel brand only available (in Toowoomba) at Woolies for about $2.20. Foreign made products bearing the old familiar Ipana, Kolynos, Colgate etc names were all at least double in price. The Cedel disappeared...totally.
Today we found Coles brand toothpaste which is made in Australia for $2.....it's down hidden in the bottom row with all the other brands more prominently displayed.....and double the price.
What do people buy?....the foreign ones made in third world countries for pennies but resold in Australia for double the price of the home grown product.
Off topic a bit but just have to look at all our fruit farmers ploughing their trees into the ground, due to all this over seas tin and fresh fruit allowed to enter our land...They just cannot continue to lose money so have no choice. As they have so many rules and regulations here and the overseas producers have very little regulations regarding sprays and such. So unfair not to look after our own industry. Before long we will have no choice other than have to eat fruit and vegs grown over seas.( ONE WONDERS HOW OLD THESE PRODUCTS ARE BEFORE WE GET TO EAT IT )...
