Gilgandra

Hi all

Someone mentioned to me that Gil has bore baths.  I can' seem to find anything on the net. Does it exist, and if so, where?

Any other suggestions on things to see between there and Lightning Ridge?

NO Gilgandra does not have bore baths.
The nearest is Pilliga or Burren Junction about 180 klm nth.

Excellent road between Coonamble & Pilliga, been over it often. Gravel (usually reasonable) between Pilliga & Burren Junction. Alternatively Walgett to Burren is a good sealed road.

Is the road rough from the number of trucks using the road or some other reason? Thanks in advance.

I travelled up through Gilgandra,Walgett,Lightningn Ridge, four weeks ago towing a van found the roads rough, but just dropped my speed and found it fine, was glad to turn off at Gilgandra and get away from the trucks.

The reason I heard the roads were rough was that it was caused by the heavy rains and flooding earlier in the year, hope this is some help.Des

How about the road from Lightning Ridge to Collarenabri? Its been about 40 years since I drove on that one.

Also, any recommendations for a van park at the Ridge?

The CP behind the BP servo in Lightning Ridge is Good .

We had a week there about 4 months ago . Walk to the shops and the Bowls Club which has good meals and good Friday night raffles .

Turn off at Gilgandra and follow the sealed road to Coonamble then take the Piliga Road from there.
The highway from Gil is ok with only a few rough patches and the same goes for the Pilliga road.
However all are sealed right to the Baths.
We are regular visitors from Dubbo.
Try a Burger from the little shop in Pilliga but do not order two unless you are ravenous as they are big.
We also donate at this little shop towards the upkeep of the baths. We donate $5 per day which although small is appreciated as MOST BLOODY do not donate.

Sorry cannot help with that road,I took the road to Hebel up to St George and Dalby. We stayed at the Newish park on the out skirts of town about 200 metre walk down to hot artesen pool,we could only get a ensuite site as it was just about booked out because of the gem fest being on,paid $45 .Have heard that the Crocadile Caravan park in the main drag is very good, but we had to take whatever we could because of festival, hope this helps a bit more.Des

You can't go past the opal caravan park ,one of the best in Australia at Lightning Ridge, only my thought .

I have been travelling between Gil and the Qld border on and off for the last 14 years and it hasnt really changed much . Rough in patches good in others . The road is built on black soil which is not a good start for the builders .
