Hello my friends, just enquiring what Larapinta Drive N.T conditions are like. We aren't in a 4wd but all wheel drive Ford Territory Thank you all once again. Kind regards Jim
Hi Jules No we're in Aldinga beach at the moment but planning our Grande Tour for next year starting in late March .I was thinking of the loop around rather than back tracking if possible. However I don't want to shake the vehicle to pieces. Thanks for your quick reply.Kind Regards....Jim
Are you going to tow a caravan around the loop timjina? Its a bit too far and too much to see for just a day-trip, we took a tent with us and camped overnight at Ormiston gorge. Theres about 40k's dirt road which may or may not be corrugated, we drove into Palm Valley which really did need a high-clearance 4WD, but the rest could be done with a 2WD.
If you take the road to Kings Canyon, it's gravel and don't know about how good/bad it is. Call the Alice Springs visitor Centre for up-to-date info.
We did the loop clockwise from Alice to Alice. Spent the first night at rest area (in Camps) before Hermannsburg- do not stay there. After there it is gravel but was good ( no good saying it will be the same when you go) .We turned nth at the Meerenie junction & then spent the next night on top of a wonderful lookout. The next 2 nights we spent camped on the bank of the Finke River Opposite Glen Helen resort. Wonderful spots along the river. Last night was at another spot (also in camps) with a great view & wonderful sunset.
We had our van in tow & had no problems.
Camps book in car so can't give you the numbers.
