Road Conditions

Thinking of travelling in a few months time along the Savannah Way from Borroloola to Normanton  in my 4wd Landcruiser towing a 22ft Caravan .Has anyone travelled on it recently that could give me a report. Please

At the end of the season, usually October, the Borro to Burketown road isn,t too bad as they have graded it. The river crossings are low, but still a bit rough. An off road van or one with strong suspension is recommended.Hells Gate closes in early November, and DON,T travel the road after any rain.Cuts off 100s of klms,so just  be prepared. Bill

I remember a lady (who is no longer on this forum) said they shook the cupboards loose in their caravan on the way to Boroloola. The reason I remember is it was the same brand of caravan as ours and we have been very careful of corrugated roads since. That would have been a couple of years ago, things change often on some of those roads. Try googling the visitor centre at Normanton and ask them, they'll have up-to-date info.
