I saw the trailer a while back Vic and looked good, make up looks great too. I will check out cinema over in Leongatha, Victoria and see if it is on, otherwise I might see it up in town next week.

 Yes it is a bit "in your face" Jim, there is no way they could get me to kiss another bloke no matter how much they paid, as far as I know the two actors involved are straight (who knows these days, all the women thought Rock Hudson was straight in the beginning) but I suppose professional actors look at it differently and it is just a role they have to play.

PS:  I am not making a judgement on others, just saying it's not for me, also I did put some will find the movie to be confronting in my first post.   Having said that the movie and acting was well done about a lifestyle most of us would never experience or want to.

I've had some very good friends of both sexes who were gay.

 Totally agree Sheba, no doubt some on this forum have a child or other relative that is also.   Glad I'm not though, too much discrimination and prejudice in the community about it although it is getting better, but a long way to go yet.   I take my hat off to those celebrities and others who come out publicly too, they help break down the barriers for others with the same gender leanings.

Sexual preferences may or may not be a matter of choice, but lifestyles are. To consider an analogy, people are born with fat genes, so one should pity them and understand them, but one should not condone their overeating. Similarly, I should be able to denounce the act of buggery for what it is, without being seen as a bigot. If people engage in such acts in private, whether heterosexual or homosexual, then I have nothing to say against them. I prefer not to dwell on any individual's sexuality, as long as I'm not directly confronted by it. I see Liberace in the same way as Peter Allen, Freddie Mercury, or Oscar Wilde (the author of "The Picture of Dorian Gray"). All were artists, performers, and literary figures who enriched the lives of millions of others via their work, and we should be grateful for that. That's all I need to know.

As for religion (a taboo subject in this forum), both Islam and Christianity denounce homosexuality, so one cannot be a believer and be gay at the same time. That would require Orwellian doublethink. The aforementioned Wikipedia article takes the all too typical approach of attempting to "reinterpret" the scriptures to make them fit today's changing moral values. Muslims, OTOH, faithfully adhere to the original text, albeit with outrageous consequences.

My philosophy is to allow people to be and do what they want, unless it interferes with the peace and security of others, and help those who can't help themselves. That necessarily makes me an atheist and a socialist.

 Totally agree Sheba. And some I've known some who would not have chosen to be gay as they were rejected by society and often family. I don't imagine they could make themselves be heterosexual any more than I could become gay. We are what we are.

 

Other than their choice of sexual partners, these days there is nothing that some gays do in private that is not done by some hetrosexual couples in private as well.   Whether gay or straight it is up to the couples to choose their own sexual habits they are both happy with.

I remember reading an article somewhere written by a doctor that said if things that are done in a consensual sexual relationship are agreeable to both parties and both are comfortable with it then that is ok.   All parties however do need to take precautions though especially those who have casual encounters.

Has anyone else seen the movie yet?  I would like to comment on one particular thing in the movie but don't want to spoil it for anyone who might be seeing it, it is about a health risk, but believe it or not it is not about a sexual health risk, but is something I wasn't aware of.

 I was sitting on a bench seat in a shopping mall yesterday waiting for SWMBO and a bloke about 70 came up to me and asked if he could sit on the seat.  I said yes, I was just waiting for my wife.  He sat down and asked me how I was, and I replied fine and asked how he was.

He told me his name was "Wally he was fine physically but he had mental problems", he couldn't get a beach boys song out of his head, it was about a sloop (can't say I know it) and he wanted to sing it for me.   I told him no but he could tell me the words to the song, which he preceded to do (forgotten them now though). 

He said he drove his wife and mates mad singing the song all the time so I was just glad he didn't sing it for me.  I asked him if he was on medication or was getting professional help for his mental problems and he said he wasn't.   I told him he should (nicely) and then he got up, shook my hand and left.....OT but the dog lady's comment about introductions reminded me about it.

 Well seeing as nobody seems in a hurry to see the movie, I may as well tell you.

Liberace was in hospital suffering organ failure, in particular his kidneys and looked like having to go on dialysis.

It turned out he was being poisoned by his stage costumes which were dry cleaned after every performance and the chemicals used in the dry cleaning process were being absorbed into his skin under the hot lights/sweating etc.  

He cut out the dry cleaning and his health recovered, I assume he found another way to clean his costumes without chemicals.
