We've been travelling since mid June with our Australian Silky, Pippa. She is now almost 10 months old. She's had a wonderful time; seen her first kangaroo, her first pushbike, many birds, horses, cattle and even some sheep and goats. She's been amazed by them all.
Thanks also for all the advise we were given regarding ticks and using Advantix. She gets a dose every fortnight and a full examination every night.
She has met lots of other dogs and so her socialisation is going well. She is a little wary of big dogs though.
She has also been a wonderful magnet for conversations and almost everywhere we have been people have stopped us for a chat because they used to have a Silky as a child, or relatively recently, or they just have dogs too.
Sure, there have been some things we haven't been able to do but having her with us has been the payoff.
We're also quite used to having pockets of little plastic doo bags. I think that when we get home we'll have to walk around with them in our pockets just to feel dressed!
She rides well in her doggy booster seat and can see everything ahead and to the sides. She's learning lots on this trip, her first big one.
Pippa's seat is a Skybox Kurgo Booster seat for dogs. I got it from Petworld for about $100, relying on memory here. It takes dogs up to 13.6 kg.
We attach it to the headrest of the middle rear seat (Prado) and strapped around the seat as well. Pippa loves it and when she gets tired she can snuggle down for a nap. It has a restraint that can hook to a harness or collar. Currently we have to use a collar as she is still too small for a harness, well one that the clip will fit through.
It gives us peace of mind as we know where she is and it is much better than the seatbelt version which we also have, but which doesn't allow her to see the passing scenery.
You can buy them on-line but when I found that Petworld had them for a fairly reasonable price I went with them; no postage that way.
