Cheap fuel at Willcania

Hi,

I assume that many members would be aware of the cheaper diesel at the BP Depot in the back streets of Wilcannia. We went there in early June, and were horrified to find it was the same as in the main street.

We checked again in late July on the way home, and saved 9 cents per litre. Not sure what went on, but certainly worth checking each time you pass thru'.

Last time I was there, I filled up in the main street & then went for a short tour & then came across the cheaper outlet  .. Buggar!

Put a large note on my map for next time.

Yes, we found it the last few times we went through. The only good reason to stop in Wilcannia perhaps - and it's safer to use. Someone stopped at the main street one and watched as a Gerry can was swiped from his ute.

We actually stopped under a shady tree opposite this beautiful old building (picked the photo off the internet).  It is currently the Local Council premises.  Had morning tea there & watched the locals go about their business.

On a previous visit we took the van for a tour of the residential area.  Some interesting sights & looks from the locals.  Made sure that we didn't go down any one way streets though.

It must have been a great location in its prime.  Very depressing now days though.

We have lasting memories of our first visit there long before our caravanning days.  We pulled up in the old FE Holden after a muddy trip down the Darling from Louth & watched a mob of whites in one pub and a mob of blacks in another across the road (have looked unsuccessfully for the spot on later visits), yelling abuse at each other.  Frightening!  We decided to move on.
