Read the instruction and ingredient label you may be surprised what's in it and already have it in the shed under a different name . If the label doesn't tell you what you want to know ask the company for MSDS which they are obligated at law to provide . There are only a couple of chemicals that are permitted in potable water supplies so be careful of the dose rate and the method of dispensing it , in concentrated form these chems can be a bugger to handle safely. Beware of bucket chemistry methods

Has anyone heard of a product called " Tank Safe, a rainwater tank purifier. It's a solution that you put into your water tanks and it claims to kill germs, viruses and other pathogens. It last's for about 2months and only needs a small such as 65 ml in a 1000 L tank. You would only need a small amount in say a 80 L tank. Looks like it comes only in a 2L bottle but will need to follow that up.
If you have heard of this product or you know of someone who has could you let me know as I'm interested. As we all know bad water is bad news

You can do the same with Bleach. My brother puts it regularly in his tank and I have heard of numerous others.
When up at my sons in Biggenden I asked at the hardware store if they had anything for his tank. They hadn't heard of anything I could use so we reverted to the bleach as well.
It was only about a cup per tank (40,000 litres I think)
G'Day Briche, It's probably not what you want to hear, but I'd worry that if it is that powerful then what does it do to you when you drink it. If the product you talk about is called Aqua-safe and as you say it's dosage is 65ml for 1000litres of water, then for your 80 litre tank you'd need to add about 5ml or a teaspoon full. This amount could only be added to a full untreated tank.....what do you add when you're not sure how empty the tank is? Is overdosing dangerous?
We've never had bad water but maybe we've been lucky and I must say that I've never heard first hand of the consequences of bad water. Most of out lives we've drank untreated tank or bore water with no problems.

Instead of bleach, which seems to have detergent in it nowadays, you could try Milton. Its used to sterilise babies bottles, then according to directions use them without rinsing so it must be safe. Its likely to be more expensive though,
